Du machst uns wirklich den Mund wässerig mit Deinen Bildern von Cley. Frage zum (Such)Biid von Circe: muss ich meine Machete mitbringen?! 😉
Ach ja, in Texas ist es nicht immer sonnig. Kommt auch sehr drauf an, wo man in Texas ist. Ich habe Texas z.B., bevor ich hier hinkam, auch immer eher mit trocken und fast wüstenähnlich assoziiert, so mehr wir Neu Mexiko und Arizona, aber East Texas sieht ganz anders aus, fast wie Florida: Bayous, Sümpfe, dichte Wälder mit Moos behangen. Es ist eben ein Riesenland.

Gerrit, (der fesche junge Mann im ersten Bild ) und Klausbernd haben es letzten Sommer wieder ausgebessert. Eine Arbeit die immer wieder ansteht. Bei den täglichen Gang ins Dorf wird auch immer nach “Circe” geschaut, die Tiden sind stark. Mächtig stark bisweilen, Klausbernd hatte ein unangenehmes Erlebnis letzten Sommer, das hätte ins Auge gehen können.

Liebe Hanne,
OK, die Machete bleibt zuhause. Wie gefährlich Tidengewässer sein können, weiß ich ja nur zu gut von Deutschland und der Nordseeküste her, auch aufgrund meiner seglerischen Erfahrungen. Hier an der texanischen Golfküst, bei einem Tidenhub von maximal etwas über 30 Zentimetern, heben wir damit Gott sei Dank gar keine Probleme. Über Klausbernd’s (unangenehmes) Erlebnis lasse ich mir dann persönlich berichten.
Apropos John aus Texas: danke für den Hinweis. Wie Du ja sicherlich schon an meinem Kommentar hier an ihn gesehen hast, er lebt gar nicht so weit von uns weg, nur etwa 90 Meilen. Port A, wo er lebt, ist ja – Zufall über Zufall – unser “Standardausflugsziel” an der Golfküste.
Übrigens: Rhythm und sein Frauchen sind auch aus Texas. Sie leben im Dallas-Fort Wortn Metroplex [http://readingwithrhythm.wordpress.com/2012/08/16/a-word-about-rhythm/], wenn ich es richtig sehe. Du hast mittlerweile eine richtg texanischen Gefolgschaft! 😉

Dina schrieb es bereits, etwa 50% der Häuser hier sind Ferienhäuser. Oft sind es sehr idyllische Cottages, die entweder an Touristen vermietet werden oder in denen hauptsächlich Cambridge-Leute sich zurückziehen, um ein Buch zu schreiben. Auch ich vermiete im Sommer den Anbau meines Hauses als Ferienwohnung, was hier einige tun.
Hunde haben auch viele hier, Labradors sind beliebt.

Hach, wenn man den Wetterbericht so liest (und die tollen Bilder sieht), möchte man glatt paarhundert Kilometer weiter nordwestlich leben. Seufz. Hier hat es letzte Woche das Künstlerbudenbadezimmer im Dauerfrost zerlegt, was wieder erheblich Renovierungsarbeit und -kosten bedeutet. Auch das Silobad draußen auf der Terrasse ist in Mitleidenschaft gezogen. Der Orangenbaum hat nur durch ein Wunder im Atelier überlebt. Die Katze randaliert, geht kaum vor die Tür …

Laut meinem Wetterbericht, wird’s bald wärmer. Ich hoffe es. Auch auf dem Venusberg im Rheinland liegt immer noch Schnee. Ob es der Katze tröstet? Darf ich dich an April in Cley erinnern? Und ein paar Wochen später…? Gerrit hat im Juni auf Facebook den Sommer als vermisst gemeldet. 🙂
Also, hoffen wir auf eine baldige Besserung. Klausbernd, Siri und Selma arbeiten zurzeit emsig in den Garten, es verspricht schön zu werden…

Well, to come (without your dog) is easy. One can even fly via Amersterdam to Norwich Internal Airport. But to bring a dog from abroad needs some paperwork.

Ich lese gerade dein Zitat von Kazuo Ishiguro und dabei kommt mir eine anderes Zitat in dem Sinn, das jedoch völlig anders ist und wirkt… das bringt mich auf eine Idee..
Ich habe gerade zum zweiten Mal “Was vom Tage übrigblieb” von Ishiguro gelesen. Das wunderbare Buch hat den Booker-Preis gewonnen, es ist absolut empfehlenswert. James Ivory hast das Werk mit Emma Thompson und Anthony Hopkins grandios verfilmt, kennst du vielleicht den Film? Ich habe mir “als wir Waisen waren” jetzt bestellt.

It’s such a gorgeous place – we’ll be over there next year… Easter 2014 on a family holiday! Wouldn’t it be great if you were there at the same time!

it`s true. To live in North Norfolk is like a time machine, you feel transportet into the 19th c.

What great pictures, they brings back happy memories, as i have been lucky enough to visit this lovely area a few times. (Those seals look very familiar!) And what a beautiful and unspoiled corner of England this is. Mostly because- as you rightly observe or quote above- it isn’t really on the way to anywhere else, so it is mercifully left alone. That is a special quality, one that only a small minority of places have, a sort of end-of-the world quality. It is a like a little village on a peninsula in West Cork I often visit. It’s also at the end of the road, & nowhere else left to go. Far from being frustrating, it is strangely relaxing, liberating in fact, because (I surmise) otherwise we always feel like we should be moving to that illusionary somewhere else. (the Tyranny of Choice?) Super post, nostalgic and deeply enjoyable. -Arran.

Well, when I’m lucky enough to spot a seal, I always think they look familiar, although there are few thousands around. 🙂 For me it’s a travel back in time when I go to Cley, it’s very relaxing and almost like a detox to busy city. Beautiful photos of a lovely landscape. Also some great quotes again, especially Kazuo Ishiguro refering to Norfolk as “peaceful” and “forgotten”, it is why Iove it. Sheringham to Weyborne is my favourite walk in England, full of memories, as I used to visit as a very young boy. We stayed with a friend of my mother in the old Coastguard House on the cliff edge, not far from Weybourne. Have returned for day trips many times since then and plan to do so again this summer. The wind, sea air and peace, with just the call of a few seagulls and the song of the skylark is sheer heaven!

Thank you very, very much for your commentary. Sheringham to Weyborne – I walk this part of the coastpath at least once a month. First the great walk and then as the special treat the icecream in Sheringham. If you go on towards Cromer you find yourself in that area where the novel “Poppyland” is placed, which gave our area its name.

nein, der Satz stimmt nicht von mir. Das ist einen Fetzen den ich irgendwann, irgendwo aufgeschnappt habe und sofort in meinem kleinen Notizbuch eingetragen habe. Ich liebe und sammele Zitate und die meisten Zitate die ich verwende, haben mich persönlcih irgendwann angesprochen und berührt. Ich bin froh, dass ich jetzt die Möglichkeit gefunden haben die in dieser Weise zu archivieren. Meine Freundin sagte heute zu diesem Zitat, “wie herrlich!” – ich war sofort im Bilde. 🙂

You put together another of your wonderful posts. I so loved going through it and enjoying botht the images and your quotes. “If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can not buy.” That’s something it’s always smart to stop and think about it, isn’t it? And you KNOW you got me with the water pictures. I had no idea you had dark green water like that!!! Like I saw in Hawaii. It’s mesmerizing!!
