Since I got my new camera I’m studying more than I’m actually making photos, but just wait…! 🙂
As you know, Stefano Crosio is a famous, highly decorated wildlife photographer and thanks to his advice I decided to get the Nikon D800 and the three “dream team” lenses. Please enjoy this tutorial and pay Stefano a visit. Thanks! 🙂 I’m now off to Norfolk. See you soon! 🙂
Nikon D800, Nikkor AF-S 70-200 f/2.8G VR II; 1/1600 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 250
After my previous post about how to effectively customize a Nikon D800 so as to make it work the way you want/need, a question from a reader prompted me to write again about the D800 and explain why I think that, if properly configured, the D800 is a dream camera (at least in the Nikon camp) and a star performer not only for photographing still subjects but also action.
Let’s start from a few basic facts: the D800 has a so-called “FX” format full-frame CMOS sensor, capable of recording images at the stunning resolution of 36MP in the traditional 35mm format of 24×36. At this resolution, the D800 resolves much more detail than any “legacy” 35mm film-based camera and approaches medium-format territory. The flip side of such phenomenal resolution is that, given the huge amount of data…

But Dina, are you really sure that you shouldn’t have gone for the D3s? (ha)
I think it is very much about having an ‘eye’ for a great shot, or good composition. (and I never did have one of course) Good equipment really inspires you to go out and take more stuff, but my all-time favourite pictures were taken with a short lens, and black and white film. (and not by me, naturally…)
Keep enjoying the process, and avoid all that Photoshop malarkey!
Best wishes from Norfolk, as always. Pete. x

Haha, dear Peter, you’re so right; I hear a big applaud for your words. 🙂 Not to worry, I’m not a friend of photoshop at all. Greetings to you in Norfolk, give Ollie a pat from me.

Now I know, why you make such great photos. You don’t just have the right equipment, you actually spend time to get to know it. I should do that too. Have a safe trip, Peggy

Dear Dina,
Maybe we could meet on October 31st? Since we’ll be in Bonn only for a week, we’re somewhat short of time and already have appointments on all other days. Sorry!
Best regards from southern Texas to all of you in Cley,
Pit & Mary

How I love the 70-200!!!!! (but I have the previous version, the VR l, from my previous Nikon era…)..even if, most of the times I’m the old fashioned 50mm soul…
I do agree with that someone who said photography is not (only)about equipment..but about what we’re able to see & capture….and you showed us exactly that with your wonderful photos…
Have a nice evening!

Kombinasjonen “knipse” og “lese” er viktig. Det er du som er nøkkelen i motivvalg og komposisjon! Du har valgt et flott kamera, lykke til med knipsingen nå! Gleder meg til fortsettelsen!
Ønsker dere ei flott helg i England. Lake District er utrolig flott, mange hyggelige mennesker der. Et sted jeg besøkte i mi “analoge” tid!

Oh, wow, that is a PROPER camera! I look forward to seeing your photos (from Norfolk of course) once you have finished reading the manual 😀
I hope the weather has improved! Bit cooler here on the west side of the country, but no rain (at the moment)
