How right you are! I grew up in the middle of a bundle of Schäferhunde/ German Shepherds in Norway and it was absolutely amazing to see how the dogs knew or sensed when my father was coming home. They all sat there patiently with exactely this fixed intent …

There is a book on that phenomenon, it is titled (more or less ..) ‘Dogs that know when their owner is coming home’. My husband used to say that my own Scottie got ready in the front entrance before I arrived from work, but it could have been that he knew the time of day. You are now verifying that behaviour. According to the book the dogs are tied to their owner by some kind of sixth ( or seventh …) sense, in some kind of telepathic field that makes them aware of their beloved movements at a distance. My alpha Scottie knew when I intended to take him to work with me – even though he was outside and I inside mulling over my day. It was not because I was getting dressed for work. He only got excited when I had been THINKING to take him. Amazing things with animals…

Liebe Dina,
