Cley Crash

First of all we want to say „THANK YOU“ to all of you who warned us that the last big flood might have uncovered mines on Cley beach and all who were worried and concerned after the helicopter crash in Cley next the Sea last night.

Vorab möchten wir uns bei allen lieb bedanken, die sich sorgenvoll wegen des Hubschrauberabsturzes und wegen der durch die letzte Sturmflut (möglicherweise) freigelegten Minen am Strand sich um uns sorgten.

How the mines and the crash are connected?
The HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter with „the best safty equipment in military history” crashed during an exercise just where those mines are likely to be hidden, an area in which Dina and me naively ran around to take pictures of the bizarre landscape the last flood has formed. Further down you can see how our landscape has changed. The shingle bank has moved inland and the surface has been scoured away.

Wie hängen Flut und Absturz zusammen?
Der HH-60G Pave Hawk Hubschrauber mit „the best safty equipment in military history” stürzte bei einem Übungsflugs gestern am frühen Abend über den Cley Marshes genau an der Stelle ab, wo möglicherweise die Springflut diese Minen aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg freigespült hat, eine Stelle, an der Dina und ich gleich nach der Flut leichtfüßig wie naiv herumliefen. Hier hatte die Flut unsere Küste in eine bizarre Mondlandschaft verwandelt. Weiter unten seht ihr die Bilder, die Dina nach der großen Flut aufgenommen hat.

We just had lighted the open fire around six last evening when all by a sudden the absolut silence was brutely disturbed by the sirens of police, fire engines, Coast Guards, and ambulance. From our upstairs windows we saw helicopters circeling slowly around the nature reserve. As the evening was very mild and as we were curious we wanted to make to the beach. Although we didn`t get far. One of our neighbours, a Coast Guard, blogged the coast road with his colleagues. “You can`t walk further and better stay in because the area between Cley and Salthouse is explosion zone”, he explained.
Meanwhile the rumor went from mouth to mouth “’copter crash in the reserve”. Besides bright position lights, circeling helicopters and low flying planes nothing was to be seen.
On our way home we met a Coast Guard who warned everybody in the pub of the possibility of a huge explosion. This made the barman reply to calm down the guest: “we don`t usually have this here.”   

Wir hatten kurz vor sechs gestern Abend das Holz im Kamin angezündet, als plötzlich die absolute Stille von Sirenen der Polizei, Feuerwehr, Coast Guards und Krankenwagen gespenstisch unterbrochen wurde. Zugleich kreisten mehrere Hubschrauber über dem Strand. Da der Abend mild und wir neugierig waren, wollten wir zum Strand gehen. Allerdings kamen wir nicht weit, da unser Nachbar, seines Zeichens Coast Guard mit Kollegen die Coast Road abriegelte. „Ihr könnt nicht weiter gehen, Explosionsgefahr im Gebiet zwischen Cley und Salthouse“, war die freundliche aber bestimmte Antwort.
Inzwischen war das Gerücht umgegangen, dass ein Hubschrauber der US Armee beim Vogelschutzgebiet (Cley Nature Reserve) abgestürzt sei. Außer extrem hellen Positionslichtern an der Absturzstelle, kreisenden Hubschraubern und Flugzeugen war nichts zu sehen.
Auf dem kurzen Heimweg trafen wir einen Coast Guard, der im Pub die Gäste vor einer möglichen Detonation warnte, worauf der Barmann angeblich die Gäste mit einem „so etwas gibt es hier gewöhnlich nicht“ aufgemuntert hat.

We tried to get near the accident side on hidden paths early morning today. All in vain. There is a declared high secury zone by the US army and the English police declared this side as a crime scene and sealed it as well. The US army has occupied the visitor centre of the bird reserve to run investigations from there.
We walked with the Warden as near as possible to the side of the crash to give Dina the chance to take some photographs. The helicopter in the middle of the picture is the one which followed the one which crashed and landed at the side immediately.

Heute Morgen versuchten wir auf unbekannteren Pfaden zum Ort des Geschehens zu schleichen. Jedoch vergebens, zunächst gibt es eine 5 Meilen high security zone der amerikanischen Armee um die Abschlussstelle und die englische Polizei hat das Gebiet als Crime Scene und somit zum no go area erklärt. Die US Armee hat das Besucherzentrum des Vogelschutzgebietes eingenommen, von wo aus sie den Einsatz leitet.
Wir sind mit dem Warden so nah wie möglich an den Unglücksort gegangen, damit Dina diese Bilder von der Unglücksstelle aufnehmen konnte. Bei dem Hubschrauber in der Bildmitte handelt es sich um den Hubschrauber, der den abgestürzten Hubschrauber bei einem Übungsflug verfolgte und nach dem Absturz sogleich an der Unfallstelle landete.

Although we find it annoying that the US army rules our coast now, we mourn with the relatives and friends of the four men who were killed, supposedly young men who lost their lives in the Cley Marshes.

Obwohl wir verärgert sind, dass zur Zeit das amerikanische Militär über unsere Küste bestimmt, trauern wir mit den Angehörigen der vier Toten, wahrscheinlich jungen Männern, die in den Cley Marshes ihr Leben ließen.

      ja, wir haben natürlich Glück gehabt, dass der Absturz in den Marschen und nicht über dem Dorf geschah. Allerdings muss ich sagen, dass solche Übungen nur an diesem etwas abgelegenen Küstenstreifen durchgeführt werden.

  3. I suppose that we have to be thankful that this aircraft did not crash on an inhabited area, though I often think that this will happen one day soon. It is a shame that there were no survivors, and I like to think that the pilot got the helicopter away from the nearby pub (is it theDun Cow, Salthouse?) and occupied buildings deliberately.

    • Dear Pete,
      nobody knows for sure what had happened, but it seemed to be likely that they tested hunting and escape to the sea. The fleeing helicopter touched the shingle bank on the east side (right of the picture) and crashed. You are right, it happened near the visitor centre not far from the “Dun Cow”. The “Dun Cow” is the press and TV centre now since the English fire engines have moved from Salthouse village green and Americans have taken over with heavy equippment from Lakenheath.

      today is Ollie’s tailday, I suppose you are at the vet’s now. We cross our fingers for Ollie that it won’t hurt too much and that it’ll heal soon.
      This place (Cley) is still crowded with all sorts of people. Do you sometimes have to leave Beetley and help out in other regions when something like this happen?

    • Ollie is back from the Vet. They are going to do the operation on 16th, and remove 1-2 inches of tail. It could not be done today unfortunately, as they were too busy with other cases.
      I don’t have to go to other places for Fire Service emergencies Dina, as I am just a volunteer. I was asked to help out with flood evacuation last month, but in the end, they got enough people around Yarmouth, so didn’t need me after all.
      I will give Ollie a pat from you, and we will do it all again next Thursday!

    • Oh dear, I’m so sorry to read this, Pete. What a shame they couldn’t do it right away. My dog gets upset visiting the vet and I try to keep it a minimum, but when you have to go then you go … poor, Ollie.

  5. Das sind keine schönen Nachrichten, das tut mir sehr leid! Zuerst war ich ein wenig geschockt, denn ich hatte von einem Hubschrauber geträumt, der in das Haus neben uns geflogen ist…..aber es passieren sicherlich solche Dinge jeden Tag und überall auf der Welt!
    Die ständige Bedrohung durch Katastrophen und Unfälle verdrängen wir ja gerne.
    Ein wenig gruselig ist auch, dass der Hubschrauber in Tantes Tod ganz schön wichtig ist…..
    Die passenden Worte zu finden, ist hier gar nicht so leicht….
    Für mein Entsetzen darüber, dass junge Männer im Militärdienst ihr Leben verlieren, gibt es keine Worte.

      es ist wirklich erstaunlich, dass ich in meinem Roman “Tantes Tod” eine Hubschrauberszene ausführlich beschreibe. Es hat mich selbst verblüfft.
      Das ganze Dorf trauert um diese jungen Männer.

      thanks a lot. We live about 1.5 km from the crash side and so we are safe like the rest of the village. But the beach is said to be is spread with amunition.

  7. I love how all of you are what we call here in America…”Curious Georges”….but you wouldn’t be a a great blogger/photographer if you weren’t! Interesting that the US is running the coast line now…hmmm. So sad that the men were killed, always makes you wonder what tomorrow will bring?! Your images are gorgeous….you would never know something terrible had just happened.

  8. Ihr Lieben in Cley, mir ist bei dieser Gruselgeschichte auc gleich “Tantes Tod” in den Sinn gekommen. Ich muss sagen, dass es für mich schon seltsam klingt, dass die US-Armee in England noch zum Einsatz kommt. Zum Glück seid ihr heil auf und vielen Dank für diese interessanten Nachrichten. Martina

      die US Armee kommt in diesem Fall zum Einsatz, da es sich um einen Militärhubschrauber handelt. Das Gerücht geht um, aber davon gibt`s z.Zt. viele, dass geheime Elektronik bei diesem Übungsflug getestet wurde. Der Warden erzählte Dina und mir, dass Obama den Einsatzleiter der US Armee heute Morgen telefonisch anwies, das Gebiet als high secret area weiterhin hermetisch abzuriegeln.

    • Na gut, wen interessiert schon ernsthaft der Tod von Menschen, die man nicht kannte, nie kennen lernen wird und die lebendig nicht den Hauch eines Einflusses auf das eigene Leben gehabt hätten?

      Ich stelle mir Cley als ein ziemlich verschlafenes Nest vor, dass jetzt mal ein wenig Lebendigkeit abbekommt. Schaden kann es nicht.

      in der Tat!
      So in der Mitte eines solchen Ereignisses zu sein, genießen wir, wenn auch mit einigem Stirnrunzeln über die US Armee. Aber spannend ist es. Hier kommt die Spannung anscheinend stets aus der Luft. Chaos haben wir sonst nur üblicherweise im Dorf, wenn ein seltener Vogel zu sehen ist. Vor 2 Jahren hatten wir die Sichtung – ich glaube es war die erste in UK – eines amerikanischen gestreiften Spatzen, da lief hier für eine Woche nichts mehr. Birdwatcher aus aller Welt übernahmen das Dorf, was sehr spannend war. Ein bis zwei “really rare birds” kommen jedes Jahr zu uns. Dann ist noch mehr los als jetzt.

      Die Einheimischen können ihre Zimmer vermieten, in das kleine Nest kommt ein wenig Leben….und der Rest der Welt bekommt wieder in Erinnerung gerufen, dass die Amerikaner überall als Besatzer agieren.

      Zu ändern ist es ohnehin nicht mehr, Krokodilstränen für Fremde lohnen nicht, also sollte man sich auf das Positive konzentrieren.

    • Liebe Nomadenseele,
      ich glaube, du hast eine falsche Vorstellung von unserem Dorf Cley next the Sea. Wir haben knapp 500 Einwohner, wovon noch vor wenigen Jahren hier 6 Nobelpreisträger ein Haus hatten, nun wohnen hier einige Filmregisseure. Cley next the Sea wird unter Eingeweihten Cambridge next the Sea genannt, da viele Dons von Cambridge in ihren Häusern hier Bücher schreiben. Ferner leben hier einige berühmte Autoren aus Spanien, Italien und Deutschland 😉 Die halbe Einwohnerschaft sind Wissenschaftler und Künstler, die andere Hälfte sind Expeditionsleiter und weltführende Ornithologen wie Toni Marr. Dadurch kommen viele interessante Leute aus der ganzen Welt nach Cley. Da wir alle ein offenes Haus führen, lernte ich hier Fred Hoyle, Buzz Aldrin, Rupert Sheldrake, Stephen Hawkin und die Frau kennen, die beide Pole in einem Jahr erreichte. Und kennst du den Sänger James Blunt (eifentlich Blound)? Ihm gehörte Cley Mill, er stammt aus einer alten Familie aus Cley. Auf Tourismus sind hier die wenigsten angewiesen. Sonst gibt es mehrere auch zeitgenössische Romane über das Leben in Cley (in einem bin ich sogar einer der Protagonisten). Außerdem werden wegen der Anmut des Ortes hier viele Filmszenen gedreht und Werbespots. Wir sind keineswegs hinterwäldlerisch, aber in der Hinsicht hast du recht, dass der Ort ruhig und idyllisch am Meer liegt. Die größten “äußerlichen” Ereignisse bietet uns die Natur mit riesigen Vogelschwärmen und über 200 verschiedene Spezien von Vögeln in den Cley Marshes. Dazu kommen die Seehunde und dass es ein hervorragendes Segelgebiet ist.
      So, sorry, das musste ich doch mal zur Ehrenrettung unseres Ortes klarstellen 😉

      daran sieht man wieder, dass für die Engländer der Kanal weiter ist als der Atlantic – es war natürlich in allen großen engl. Zeitungen auf der Titelseite und erste ausführliche Tagesnachricht in der BBC. In Südafrika, Kenia und Australien, wie auch in Indien wurde darüber berichtet, aber auch in Skandinavien (wir sind eben Wikinger Land).

      wie es mit der Technik so gehen kann, haben wir hier ja gerade demonstriert bekommen. Immerhin ist solch ein Hubschrauber High Tec für 15 Mio. €. Ein Gerücht – aber da gibt`s viele jetzt – besagt, dass ein Vogelschwarm (Arctic Brent Geese) in den Rotor flog. Natur besiegt High Tec.

  10. Followed this item on TV news this evening and wondered what it was all about? There was a mention of live ammunition in the form of bullets?? What!! Also bizarre is that there is another helicopter down in Norfolk Virginia. Strange times… Sad for the deaths. Excellent photos, Dina.

      Yes, you are right, in an area as big as a football field parts of the helicoper and ammunition is spread. You can see that on Dinas picture: you can see bits and pieces of the crashed helicopter and amunition spread around this other one.
      It`s very strange that in Norfolk/Virginia you have had a similar accident at the same day. Is that the Jungian synchronicity or …

      so unberühmt sind wir gar nicht, wie es auf dem ersten Blick erscheinen mag: Ich schrieb`s weiter oben an die Nomadenseele, was das Besondere unseres Dorfes ist, hier leben nämlich viele Promis aus Wissenschaft, Literatur und Kunst und Explorer. Also, den Hubschrauberabsturz hätten wir wirklich nicht benötigt, zumal wir hier lieber diskret unter uns bleiben.

    I have just watched the news on ZDF and there was nothing about this tragic happening, thanks for the local report! This is really sad, our thoughts are with the families of the four young men who lost their lives much too early.
    I suppose it is not easy to rescue the men and the helicopter in the reserve.
    We’re all relieved to read that you are alright and please don’t go for any more walks in the NO GO areas! Thanks to Nomadenseele for posting the link about the great danger. Amazing to think about when you see the photos, it looks so peaceful.

      thanks for commenting.
      The US Army faces the problem that this land was fully covered by the sea after the big flood. It’s not long ago that this water vanished and so the ground is very, very soggy. Add to this that the whole are in front of this accident side is cut by some deep creeks full of fast flowing water. Therefore it`s not that easy to reach this area and just there the mines from WW II have been washed free.
      But it`s Very strange that nobody heard an explosion. Dina, Siri and Selma and me heard the coast guards, fire engines etc. but not a big bang like nobody here. Maybe therefore the accident was discoverd not earlier than an hour after the crash. Very, very strange is this other helicopter crash in NORFOLK/Virginia at the same day – synchronicity?
      No, no we have stopped going to the no go areas any more. Promised – but Siri and Selma are allowed to overfly them.
      Oh dear, the whiskey is gone 😦 so the gin brings the help 😉

  15. Your story about the accident had everything – tragedy, beauty, curiosity, secrecy, danger, glorious scenery, bright cold weather and suspense. I hope you are all warm and well, and the families who lost their young men are somehow able to cope with their sad story.

      Yes, we are warm, dry and excited. It seems to be that US Army needs a week to clear the accident side. They want to save something from this 14 Mio $ technology which is now scattered around in bits and pieces. And than all areal photographs have to be taken for compension for the North Norfolk Naturalist Trust, the Cley Bird Reserve, our village by closing off all roads and to the county for damage on roads. The US Army was warned by our chief warden to overfly our huge bird reserve before. There is a rumour this crash was caused by a flog of Arctic brent geese.
      But, as you see, we are all right.

      alles ist gerade spannend hier und hätte es nicht vier Tote gegeben, würden wir das voll genießen. Da ist viel Thrillerhaftes im Spiel. Dass am gleichen Tag in NORFOLK/East Anglia and NORFOLK/Virgina a helicopter crashed ist doch rätselhaft. Daraus würde Dan Brown sicher eine mitreißende Story schreiben. Kein Mensch hörte den Crash, well, und Vieles mehr …
      Die US Armee wird wohl noch eine Woche bleiben, worüber wir nicht amused sind, was aber riesige Kompensationszahlungen einbringen wird.

      habe herzlichen Dank für deinen Kommentar. Zuerst war es pure neugierige Aufregung, als uns das Dorfgerücht erreichte, dass ein Hubschrauber in den Marschen abgestürzt sei. Als wir zur Unglücksstelle wollten, wurde es dann richtig spannend: All die Straßensperren, das Militär und die Beleuchtung der Marschen mit Suchscheinwerfern von Helikoptern und grellen Positionslichtern. Der Schrecken kam erst später.
      Auf jeden Fall alle im Dorf sind unverletzt und uns geht`s gut, wir haben es warm und trocken und gehen tgl. schauen, was die etwas hilflos wirkenden Amerikaner, über die wir nicht amused sind, hier veranstalten.

  18. Very glad you four are safe! It’s very frightening to learn in retrospect that something you were doing naively was incredibly dangerous.
    Some in the US also lament that the US army is on foreign coasts 😦 I do not understand our foreign policy, and cannot for the life of me figure out why of all places our military is in peaceful places. But – again – glad you are safe!

      we were a little shocked after we have heard what risk we had taken. But “no risk no fun” 😉
      I don’t understand neither why an army of a country that`s actually bancrupt is training its soldiers in anorther country’s bird reserve. Now they crashed technology worth about 14 Mio $, lost four lives, and have to paid probably millions of compansation to the North Norfolk Naturalist Trust, the Cley Bird Reserve, the village of Cley, the County of Norfolk, and the department of transport for road use and damage etc. Then there are day and night helicopters flying above this area etc. – a huge bill for the taxpayer in the end.
      We are safe, warm and dry. Thanks for asking.

  20. sono appena ritornata dalle vacanze sulla neve ed ero passata per augurare a te e ai tuoi cari un felice nuovo anno, non sapevo di questa tragedia che si è svolta proprio vicino alla tua residenza, spero che l’ambiente non venga ulteriormente danneggiato, purtroppo ne succedono tanti di incidenti con la dolorosa perdita di giovani vite, da noi ci sono i molti morti causati dalle imprudenze degli sciatori con i fuori pista che provocano le slavine…
    I have just returned from vacation in the snow and I was passed to wish you and your loved ones a happy new year, I didn’t know about this tragedy that took place right next to your home, I hope that the environment is not damaged further, unfortunately many accidents happen with the painful loss of young lives, there are many deaths caused by reckless skiers with the backcountry causing avalanches.

  31. Da ich zur Zeit so gut wie keine Nachrichten mitbekomme, was ich sehr entspannend finde, habe ich auch nichts von dem Hubschrauberabsturz gehört. Sowas ist immer schrecklich, vor allem für die Angehörigen. Was ein Glück, dass euch nichts passiert ist. Irre, welche Gefahr dort noch am Strand lauert. Hier, auf Usedom strandet auch immer noch Phosphor aus dem 2. WK an, das schon so manchen Spaziergänger, der/die es fälschlicherweise für Bernstein gehalten hat, verletzt hat. Habt noch einen schöne Woche.

      Trotz des tragischen Unglücks gibt es auch eine gute Seite, nun wird der ganze Strand dort von der US Armee geräumt, da scharfe Munition und Hubschrauberteile dort verstreut wurden.
      Mit diesem Phosphor am Strand, das hört sich ja fies an. Damit hat man im Mittelalter gefoltert.

Hi, und ich hatte schon gedacht die Ostküste Englands sei lang, als in den Nachrichten berichtet wurde, der stehende Helikopter wurde auch gezeigt, und ich an Euch dachte – wird doch nicht wohl – nun……., der Barmann hat es mit seinem Kommentar, finde ich, getroffen. In Beverly im Oktober hörte ich das erste Mal einiges über die militärischen Aktiviteten aller unser (dt+engl+amerik.), aktuell und in der Vergangenheit, und war erstaunt wie gelassen damit umgegangen wird. Irgendwie sportlich – zum fürchten finde ich. Hoffe es finden sich nicht noch mehr Minen in nächster Zeit für uns alle. Wie sieht es denn in die andere Richtung Seekante aus? Viele liebe Grüsse Ruth

    • Guten Abend, liebe Ruth,
      das ist nur ein kleines Stück der Küste, der Strand vom Parkplatz von Cley Beach nach Osten, das kurze Stück bis Salthouse Beach. Hier ist noch nie ein Unglück geschehen, aber man ist vorsichtig. Jetzt räumt die US Armee den Strand auf und dann werden Sand und Meer wieder ungestört ihr Spiel treiben.
      Von Cley nach Westen raus zum Blakeney Point, der Strand an Cley Eye und alle anderen Strände sind nicht betroffen. Und nächste Woche wird der Unglücksstrand auch wieder clean sein.

    davon habe ich nichts gehört … nun, ich habe wieder viel gearbeitet und dann hatte ich auch gleich wieder einige Termine und im Auto kein Radio … wie auch immer, ihr seid wohlauf, das ist wohl die gute Nachricht … die schlechte, dass Menschen ums Leben kamen …
    ein bisschen ist es auch durch US-Army ein Krimi, denn ich frage mich schon, was da wohl hinter steckt …

      klar doch, trotz aller Tragik, hat uns der Thrill des Krimihaften auch gepackt. Da gibt es viel Mysteriöses, das bestens krimigeeignet ist: kein Mensch hörte eine Explosion, obwohl der Hubschrauber in Teilen nicht viel größer als ein Fußball auf dem Strandwall verteilt liegt. Aber noch viel Mysteriöser ist: Am gleichen Tag stürzte in NORFOLK/Virginia ebenfalls ein Hubschrauber der US Armee ab. Nach wie vor ist alles abgeriegelt, selbst Coast Guards, Polizei, Bürgermeister werden nicht in dieses Gebiet gelassen, bevor alles geräumt ist. Das zieht natürlich Gerüchte noch und nöcher an, da hört man etwas von geheimer Technologie raunen, Sabotage und …

  39. Fab Four: It was a very sad week in the US. This helicopter crash was one of two – the other was in Virginia here in the US. Both were simple training flights. Here’s the CNN report on your crash http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/07/world/europe/uk-helicopter-crash/ . How amazing that you are so nearby. Great to see your photos of the area. Let us know if it’s later shown to be related to the possible mines or to birds. There’s been a lot of press here in the US lately about birds causing issues at our largest airports too.

    • Dear Tina,
      it is for certain that the crash is not related to the mines. The offical version is that two helicopers practiced to be attacked and to escape to the sea. The first helicopter was to low and touched the shingle bank what made it crash.
      As we are “The Mecca of Birdwatching” in England there are a lot of birds around in the nature reserve. Specialists and birders doubt it that a flog of birds caused the crash.

  42. Ich glaube auf dererlei Aufregung und Möglichkeiten den Bekanntheitsgrad eines Ortes zu steigern kann man wohl getrost verzichten. Auch hier in der Presse noch kein Wort davon, noch nicht mal eine Randnotiz.
    Ob es letztlich unausgereifte neue Technik oder ein Vogelschwarm war…? Es wird sowieso nur gesagt/geschrieben was wir glauben sollen. Die Wahrheit wird so oft gebeugt.
    Gut dass das Dorf verschont blieb, mein Mitgefühl gilt den Familien der Verunglückten.

      we didn`t know neither about those mines. Nobody knows for certain if there are mines. No mines have been found there yet. But anyway we are safe as the US Army has to clear this whole area. Today I heard that the area of the crash (as big as football field) will stay fenced off for one year – this doesn`t matter for us and the tourists.
      We will keep safe. We had to promise this to Siri and Selma as well.

      Today I tried to walk to the beach. I just could make it. My APP showed me that the gale was 80 m/h. I always like to have a look at those ship taking shelter here. One ship was that near to the beach that it ran in danger to be grounded especially as the wind was off shore.

    On the other hand I am relieved to hear that you guys are all fine and were not affected by the accident in any major way.

      A friend of ours whose father has been a fighter pilot told that it is especially tragic when soldiers die during a training. Every dying is tragic, of course, but in combat it’s easier to take for the bereaved.

  51. Thanks for your excellent account of the tragic accident and for the accompanying photos.. When I heard Cley mentioned in the news reports my immediate thought turned to you. It is such a delightful, quiet area you could not, even in your wildest dreams, have imagined such an incident happening so close by.

      yes, it’s strange that our little village out in the sticks became centre of attention for some days. And it’s amazing how many people contacted Dina and me.
      Today I have been on the beach again: sunshine, warm, and a gale of 80 m/h, so that quite some ships take shelter here. You see, there is always some exitement this winter.
