We had to celebrate 🙂 and were just lying filled up with apple cake on our bookshelves when the phone rang. Our dear friend Joan called. She was wondering what we were doing and why we hadn’t posted anything new this week. Are we allowed to tell her that we were at the beach, enjoying sun, silence, solitude – and sparkling drinks?
“Na, was habt ihr denn so gemacht?
For us, Cley is a glorious place to live. It’s very quiet and peaceful at this time of the year. But soon the silent period of the year will abruptly end. The Easter Holidays are knocking on the door. The busy summer tourists have no idea what they are missing! 🙂
It was the perfect time for celebrating you and you and all our other 5000 followers with bubbly wine on the beach, sitting there and looking dreamily flirting with mermaids. A big and warm thank you to you all!
Have a great new week! And all the best to this lovely newly wed couple we met by the sea.
Herzlichen Buchfeendank an euch alle.
Take care. Lots of love

And don’t worry about age. As older you get as better it is being here, because most of the people of Cley f.e. are 70 plus at least. It’s always a shock for our beloved Master to go to Norwich. Nearly everybody is younger than he is whereas here nearly everyone is older.

we have sandy beaches here as well – sand for miles without an end. If you saw the film “Shakespeare in love” you see one of our big sandy beaches in the last scene. But this pebbly beach is just on our doorstep. And, of course, the sea is not always that calm, but pretty often.
And here a remark from Siri and Selma: “Perfection is boring, isn’t it?”

Guten Abend, lieber Pit,
Danke!
Na, dann mach’s mal gut

Hallo Klausbernd,

Ahhhhhh, so peaceful and enticing!
Before moving to Norway, I lived on the East coast of the US, about a three hour drive from the Atlantic Ocean. There’s an over-commercialized/over-touristy area called Ocean City (in our state of Maryland) that my (then) teenage daughters enjoyed going to with their friends. Once a season or so, I’d drive and drop them off, shudder at the commotion, then drive down the coast to Assateague Island National Seashore where the beaches were mostly empty and peaceful. Three or four hours later I’d feel almost ready to drive back to the commercialized busyness to pick them up again.
It was heaven…and your beautiful photos and words bring it all back.
Enjoy your peacefulness!!

Dear Cindi,
fortunately the beaches are not commercialised here. On our beach you find nothing to consume. North Norfolk is not that touristy as it’s not easy to reach, the roads are small and windy country lanes. We fought for years for not having better roads leading to the sea – successfully!
The Americanisation with consume everywhere hasn’t reached our coast yet and we fight for it that this will never happen. It helps that not many people live of tourism here.
Thanks and have a peaceful week

Ja, in Cley Mill heiraten viele.
Ganz 💖💞💖💞 liebe Grüße an dich vom heute regnerischen Cley ☔️

Congratulations, dear friends. Cley beach ist a unique place to be, I’m glad you appreciate it and enjoy it so much. Even in the busy summertime I found it very calm and peaceful walking from the beach carpark towards the point.
I’ll open the holiday season in my stuga in two weeks too. 🙂
Kram, hugs and love from Stockholm

Hi, dear Annalena,
you are right. Actually there not many people on the beaches here. As you say if you walk to the Blakeney point you hardly meet anybody, even not during the summer holiday season. In comparison to Germany it’s more or less always empty here.
Lots of love 💞💖❤️ from Cley 🇬🇧 to beautiful Stockholm

How lucky you are to live in such a paradise, but I guess ‘Paradise’ means different things to every one of us and we can all appreciate the gifts of our surroundings.
I love the calm and peace the images send in this post.
But I especially love the last image and that feeling of solitary splendour we can enjoy on a deserted beach.

We never thought about it but probably you are right: We, the Fab 4, all come from big cities.
Well, actually our beach is never crowded, at least not following normal standards. Especially Siri and Selma sometimes love crowded beaches too.
Thanks and all the best

Guten Abend, liebe Martina,

Guten Abend, liebe Martina,
Ja, was tun?
So etwas genügt meist.
Viel Erfolg!
Liebe Grüße und ein feines Wochenende
Klausbernd 🙂

Guten Abend, liebe Susanne,

Guten Abend, liebe Silberdistel,
‘Was will der denn an UNSEREM Strand?’, fragt man sich.

Hi, dear Sophie
If you live near the sea 🌊🌊🌊🌊 then you are spoiled for living somewhere else. It just the right distance for not being flooded but have it near, just a couple of minutes walk.
Well, come around, see you at the sea.

Cley is so well described in words and pictures…a true haven from the busy world. I love lonely beaches and rarely visit them when there are people around. The rolling sea and the gulls are perfect sounds and the long strech of emptiness is soothing. Happy Easter to all of you Fab Four!
