The sun is shining, the tide goes high. Ideal weather to talk to our Great Mother. Who this is? It’s the sea, of course!
Swiftly our fairy bags are packed and off we go to the beach.

Die Sonne scheint, die Flut wogt hoch. Ideales Wetter, um mit unserer großen Mutter einen Plausch zu halten. Wer das ist, fragt ihr? Das Meer. Es müsste doch “die Meer” heißen, meinen wir. Das Meer ist doch keine Sache, als die wir es oft behandeln.
Hurtig packen wir unsere Feensäckchen und auf geht’s zum Strand.

With fairy swiftness, we erected our observation tent, got the microphones in place and now “psst!”, shut up and listen. We suppose you know that Bookfayries understand sea-speech which is similar to Queen’s Fairish. First of all we need a spell to avoid turning into the Flying Dutchman’s or Ship’s Kobold’s frequency.

A fine rushing is building up. Listen! Mother Sea begins to whisper very quietly. First she praises our clean beach we are very proud of. We walked it for an hour with Dina to photograph rubbish but all in vain, except some white bleached driftwood and one or two deserted shoes we found nothing. All by a sudden the sea starts rumbling. She is absolutely fed up with people’s behaviour. “I am getting so stuffed with more than 100 million tons of plastic every year, not to mention oil, fertilizers, heavy metals and radioactive substances that I have to vomit. Mostly on the beaches and in the sea of the land ruled by this stupid Ignorant in America to open his eyes. Off the Californian coast, in the Gulf of Mexico and especially around Hawaii I disgorged vast areas of plastic to make my point!”

Feenflugs ist unser Beobachtungszelt aufgebaut, das Mikro ausgerichtet und nun “psst!” ganz still sein und lauschen. Ihr wisst doch, dass Buchfeen die Sprache des Meeres verstehen, die dem Hoch-Feeisch ähnlich ist? Vorab muss ein Zauberspruch gemurmelt werden, damit wir nicht versehentlich die Frequenz des Klabautermanns oder gar des Fliegenden Holländers empfangen.
“Königin im blauen Schloss/Tue auf den Wellenschoß”
Ruhiges Rauschen, leise beginnt Mutter Meer plätschernd und glucksend zu raunen. Wogend lobt sie unseren sauberen Strand. Eine Stunde liefen wir mit Dina an ihm entlang, um angespülten Müll zu fotografieren. Nichts, rein gar nichts außer weiß geblichenes Treibholz und selten ein einsamer Schuh. Plötzlich grollt die See mit aufgeregten Wellen. Sie ist wütend, wie Menschen sie behandeln. Mit über 100 Millionen Tonnen Plastik wird sie jährlich zugemüllt. Gar nicht zu reden vom Öl, Düngemittel, Laugen, Schwermetallen und anderem Schweinkram, den sie an den Stränden auskotzen muss. Den meisten Plastikmüll sammelt Mutter Meer an den Stränden dieses hellhaarigen Ignoranten in Amerika, hoffend selbst ihm die Augen zu öffnen, erklärt sie uns. “Vor der Küste Kaliforniens, im Golf von Mexiko und vor Hawaii habe ich bereits riesige Plastikflächen, die keiner übersehen kann, mahnend zusammengetrieben.”

Do you know why the sea loves Bookfayries? Because they like authors like Frank Schätzing who wrote in his eco-crime novel “The Swarm” that the collective intelligence of Mother Nature take vengeance for all the pollution. Sometimes the sea has to flood the land to show who has the power. “I don’t need you, but you need me!” she makes the point tsunami-wise. At one time she covered the whole earth, now she covers about 70%; on her beaches our western civilization has its roots and long before first life was born by her.

Warum Mutter Meer uns Buchfeen mag? Weil wir Autoren wie Schätzing schätzen, der in seinem Ökokrimi “Der Schwarm” die Rache der kollektiven Intelligenz für die Umweltverschmutzung uns verständlich zu machen sucht. Das Meer muss schon ab und an über die Ufer treten, um den Menschen zu zeigen, wer die Macht hat. “Ich brauche euch nicht, aber ihr mich!” betont rauschend Mutter Meer. Immerhin bedeckte sie einst die gesamte Erde und heute 70%; an ihren Stränden entstand die westliche Zivilisation und sie gebar weit davor das erste Leben.

She talked about her fancy for authors. Very proud is she being a muse who inspired “The Odyssey“, Jules Verne and Traven, as well as Melville’s “Moby Dick” just to mention the most popular. We are proud of our many beloved  shelves filled with nautical literature. We were happy that humans and the sea seem to get along. That wasn’t the case during the Middle Ages and before when the sea was the enemy, a place to be feared. This didn’t change until the Romantics polished her image so successfully that the beach is the most liked place for holidaying until today. “If humans go on polluting me, I will become that poisonous that every drop of water will make them sick. In the Gulf of Mexico, I have already started building up a deadly zone. The time will come when fishes are only known as fabulous beast in fairytales read to children whose parents escaped to another planet. You will find seabirds in old biology books only if you will not stop more than a million of them dying every year of pollution. Mermaids and Selkies are already died out and nobody saw Poseidon lately.“

Sie erzählt uns von ihrem Hang zu den Dichtern. Stolz ist sie, eine Muse zu sein, die zur “Odyssee“, zu “2000 Meilen unter dem Meer“, Travens Totenschiff und “Moby Dick” inspiriere, um nur die berühmtesten Werke zu nennen. Wir haben eine ganze Zimmerwand voller nautischer Bücher, über die wir jetzt in Schwärmen geraten könnten, aber die Schwarmintelligenz von Mutter Natur richtet sich zornig gegen uns. Dabei schienen sich Mensch und Meer ausgesöhnt zu haben. Im Mittelalter und davor fürchtete der Mensch respektvoll die See. Erst die Romantiker polierten ihr Image auf. So gründlich taten sie das, dass der Meeresstrand zum beliebtesten Urlaubsort bis heute wurde. Aber wenn’s so weitergeht, erzählte uns Mutter Meer, wird sie derart giftig werden, dass jede Berührung ihres Wassers unbedingt zu vermeiden ist. Im Golf von Mexiko und der Ostsee gibt es schon echte Todeszonen. Bald wird die Zeit kommen, in der die Fische zu Fabeltieren in den Märchenbüchern werden, die auf andere Planeten geflohene Menschen ihren Kindern vorlesen. Seevögel wird’s nur noch in Geschichtsbüchern geben, wenn weiterhin jährlich weit über eine Million von ihnen an Umweltgiften sterben. Seejungfrauen und Selkies sind längst schon zu Fabelwesen geworden und Poseidon wurde auch lange nicht mehr gesichtet.

Mother Sea has frightened us. We promised her with all fairy honour not to be litter bugs and to avoid plastic. But avoiding plastic is not that easy. With very bad feelings we dispose our garbage in plastic bags into our bins. And have you got an idea how to avoid all this packaging? Well, we throw it away knowing that there isn’t such a thing as “away”. It must go somewhere and unfortunately the big bin seems to be the sea.

Wir müssen zugeben, Mutter Meer hat uns Angst eingejagt. Aber wir haben ihr bei bei all unserer Feenehre versprochen, keine Litter Bugs zu sein, Plastik zu vermeiden, was aber erschreckend schwierig ist. Schlechten Gewissens entsorgen wir unseren Müll in Plastiktüten in die Tonne und wie all den Verpackungen entgehen? Wir leben doch in einer Wegwerfgesellschaft, aber das Wort trügt, es ist ja nicht weg und endet oft im großen Mülleimer Meer.

  2. You are opening my eyes to the beauty of Norfolk beaches! Although I was raised on the Solent coast of England, I never visited East Anglia. My great-grandfather was from that area, and I feel I missed some part of my family’s history by not traveling more within the UK. But we now have our own “family history” from 40+ years in the USA, with memories of the wide sandy Atlantic beaches of New England and the rocky coasts of Maine. We also treasure our brief years in Nor Jylland, en route from UK to US. It is good to live always near the sea..!

      it’s really great living near the sea. Once you have lived next the sea you are spoiled, you cannot live inland anymore.
      The North Norfolk coast is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and a conservation area. Our beach is very much looked after and there are regular beach combs. But even without this there isn’t much rubbish that gets washed up the beach.
      We lived in New England as well, in Vermont and Maine, which we think are the nicest counties of the US.

      yes, we feel a bit like the custodians of or lovely sea we like so much.
      Maybe we wrote what everyone knew but it’s a pity that so many humans don’t act following their knowledge.

  5. Ach da ist wieder so viel zu schreiben. Doch möchte ich mich bremsen und dem guten Rat flogen, den mein Lehrer mir in Deutschland einmal gegeben hat. In der Kürze liegt die Würze. Also Meeresraunen ist eines der vielen deutschen Wörter ,wofür es einfach keine treffende Übersetzung gibt. Ja, das klagende Meer, das so deutlich zu euch gesprochen hat, war ein gutes Metaphor für unsere heutige Lage in der ganzen Welt. Gut, dass das Meer mit euch am Strand zufrieden war! Ganz liebe Grüße an euch Vier vom verschneiten Fauquier, BC!

      wir haben den Vorteil, dass wir in einem See- und Landschaftsschutzgebiet leben und deswegen sehr auf Ökologie und Nachhaltigkeit geachtet wird. Außerdem gehen keine stark frequentierten Schifffahrtsrouten entlang unserer Küste.
      “Meeresraunen” – darauf kam unser Masterchen. Wir finden, es klingt ein wenig nach Richard Wagner.

      wie wir dich um den Schnee beneiden. Hier ist es immer noch warm und sonnig, aber nach diesem schönen Sommer hoffen wir nun auf einen echten Winter, eine Seltenheit hier.
      Wir lieben die deutsche Sprache und wir sprechen zu Hause deutsch. Die Sprache anmutig zu gestalten mit Worten voller geheimnisvoller Konnotationen, mit gefälligem Rhythmus und feinen Spannungsbögen gelingt uns nur im Deutschen. Wir lesen gerade von Klaus Modick “Konzert ohne Dichter”, ein Roman der sprachlich (auch inhaltlich) wunderschön ist. An solch feiner Sprache können wir uns sehr erfreuen.

      das liegt unter anderem daran, dass unser Masterchen seine Bücher, Artikel und Aufsätze in Deutsch schreibt.
      Wir waren uns bewusst, dass man als Expat leicht seine Muttersprache verlieren kann, die neue Sprache aber noch nicht vollständig beherrscht. Man wird sprachbehindert. Dem versuchen wir entgegen zu arbeiten.

  7. You all always write such wonderful posts, it’s like a gift to read them. This time I read the German version, which I usually don’t do, but I have enjoyed the many beautiful words in my birth language which is German. Thank you for sharing your stories with the Universe.

  8. Is that ‘away’ like the politicians when they begin a sentence with ‘we’? 😀
    And yes, it is time to ‘clean up’ our act, in heart and mind, to re-create what our ‘Mother Earth’ should be, instead of an infestation of greed and laziness.

    • oh dear, oh dear, Dina and our Master did win it. Well, we missed our aim with more than 50 likes. Nevertheless Dina and our Master bought us a great ice creams today.
      Actually if we would wait long enough we would get 500 like, we are sure. Anyway, too much ice cram is maybe not that good for us.

  19. Gerade das mit dem Plastik im Meer verursacht ein gewaltiges Magengrummen.
    Sind es z. Zeit 240 Millionen Tonnen?
    Ich verweise gerne auf die Website ” Chris Jordan – Running the Numbers”, in der der Fotograf “sehr nett” veranschaulicht, was Zahlen wie z.b. 426000 Mobiltelephon-Wegwerfen am Tag bedeutet. Er macht das auch sichtbar für plastic bottles and cups.
    In der Nähe der sogeannnten Plastikozeane ist der Meeresboden heillos verseucht.

    Naja, so steht es nun mal – um uns.

Was für ein wohltuender Beitrag 😀 .. hatte ich erwähnt, dass ich neben der Naturschönheiten an der tollen Sandwoos-Bay in Schottland leider über Berge von Müll hinwegsehen musste :/ die arme Meermutter. Es waren ganze Tonnen und Netze und kleinstplastik vom Mikroolastik ganz zu schweigen .. unsichtbar. Ich glaub euch wie schwer es ist, den gestern war ich auch 😉 plastfrei einkaufen. In Schweden ist das auch wirklich eine herausforderung. Vielleicht muss ich das in einem Ökomami- Beitrag thematisieren. Ich war gefrustet, aber auch erfolgreich. ZUm Thema Zero-Waste gibt es tolle blogs und ich beschäftige mich schon lange damit .. Shia´s Seite kann ich empfehlen http://wastelandrebel.com/de/blog/

      Nach Siris und Selmas Gespräch mit dem Meer gelobten wir sogleich Besserung. Auch wir waren verblüfft, welche Disziplin das verlangt. Wie schnell wird mal eben etwas gekauft, das man gar nicht benötigt, wie schnell benutzen wir auch noch dankbar eine angebotene Plastiktüte. Und was nicht alles in Plastik verpackt ist …
      Nun versuchen wir disziplinierte Saubermenschen und Sauberfeen zu werden. Wir geben uns echt Mühe.

  25. What a fabulous post. “No such thing as ‘away’ ” should be a mantra repeated by us all and posted on billboards. Maybe even on plastic cartons. On a lighter note, I love the idea of a deserted shoe – as though the owner has just got out and wandered off; poor, lonely, shoe!

    • We always wonder how people walk home with one shoe only. And the shoe is soooo lonely without it’s partner. Not being a pair is hell for shoes.
      YEAH! We love chanting “No such thing as ‘away'” and hope to see it soon on billboards, as graffiti and hear it chanted in schools.

    • Die Lage ist dramatisch deshalb habe ich mir die 10 Minuten Fassung von Aloha Ke Akua Nahko Bear angeschaut. Die nächste Pfalzbau Aufführung soll „Die Erde tanzt“ heißen. Wie vertanzen immer dienstags dieses Lied🌈🎶💃🏻😍❤️🙋🏻Mein Laptop hat den Geist aufgegeben. Mit zu viel Wasser die Tasten gewischt deshalb schreibe ich vom iphone🌺🌸💕🌴😎😏😫😕😂🤗

      Wasser am falschen Platz ist nicht so gut. Trocknen lassen und auf keinen Fall anstellen. Wenn alles abgetrocknet ist, sollte dein Laptop wieder okay sein. Alle guten Laptops können Wasser ab, sie dürfen nur nicht im feuchten Zustand gestartet werden.

    • Das Wasser hat den Geist meines Laptops leider komplett aufgenommen. Dazu kam meine Unachtsamkeit…ich werde ein Neues brauchen. Dann ganz anders vorgehen. Mit Systhem! 500 Euro Reparatur sind zu teuer. Selbst die Daten bräuchte ich gefühlt nicht mehr. Bilder und Musik habe ich noch. Ballettmütter sind übrigens schwierig. Sie werden schnell sauer und egoistisch. Viele sind auch süß. Einige regelrecht intelligent. Geduldig und weise. Wasser muss lernen nicht allen Müll zu schlucken?! Wir müssen Wasser achten und rein halten?! Wasser ist Leben🙏👌😀ach was ich noch sagen wollte: scheinbar wirken 28 verschiedene Magnete auf das Meer bis so ein Monat rumgeht grübel🤩🤪

      Über diese Magneten habe ich noch nie gehört. Da ist ein Magnet, der magnetische Nordpol, der sich in etwa kreisförmig bewegt und der den Kompassausschlag bestimmt. Ich hörte noch nie davon, dass andere magnetische Einflüsse gemessen wurden.
      Das Ableben deines Rechners tut uns leid. Aber sei froh, das ist eine gute Gelegenheit, einen Rechner zu kaufen, der auf dem neuesten Stand ist.

    • Drucker Trockner und Geschirrspüler auch kaputt. Drucker habe ich 2 gekauft. Der Junge Verkäufer( nachdem ich nicht den kaufen wollte den er empfahl): Naja. Ich bin ja noch ein paar Stunden da. Frecher Kerl!😂👍Trockner lasse ich weg. Gibt es auch umweltschonenden Reiniger für Geschirrspüler? Werde mir ein gutes Laütop ohne Schnickschnack kaufen für meine Zwecke. Aber das wird noch dauern! Setze mich an den See und stelle mir Meer vor🙁😕Danke und lässt es euch gut gehen👍🤗

      wir besitzen keinen Trockner, da diese Geräte viel zu viel Energie verbrauchen und wir sie auch nicht benötigen.
      Geschirrspüler schont die Umwelt und klar doch, da gibt es eco-Tabs.

    • Danke….bin gerade von Tellern zu Tellus und Tellur gekommen, spanend, was ich alles nicht weiß!!! Ob ich den neuen Geschirrspüler bei MediaMarkt oder Saturn kaufe? Wird aufs Gleiche hinauslaufen…
      Es gibt Alternativen, schau´n wir mal…
      Gleich tanzen wir wieder Tarantella…das ist ja ein lustiger Tanz!!!

      Energiegewinnung durch die Kraft des Meeres, speziell der Wellen wird z.B. in Gezeitenkraftwerken in den Niederlanden und England schon seit Längerem praktiziert.

    • Jetzt wollte ich mir gemütlich Srimad Bhagavad Gita vorlesen lassen. In YouTube . Aber- unverständliche Sprache mit fürchterlich kleingeschriebenen englischen Untertiteln…🤓🧐☹️Und ziemlich miserable Schauspieler und viel Herumgehüpfe😉😕meine mich erinnern zu können dass da auch schon etwas von verschmutzten Wassern steht.. in Bali haben sie wenigstens den Strand aufgeräumt🙌👏Wir bleiben dran👍

      Wenn ich mich recht erinnere, hat schon der Staufer Friedrich II im 13. Jh. Gesetze gegen die Verschmutzung der Flüsse durch Färbereien und Gerbereien erlassen.
      Wir sind gerade zu Masterchens Geburtstag in Ferien in Oxford und den Cotswolds.

  27. My own love for the sea stems from the oil paintings of ships my grandfather captained during the late 19th century and up until after WW1, when he retired. There were pictures of windjammers and steam ships. He sailed them to China, America, Egypt, Japan, India, South Africa and many other destinations. We had a shoebox of all the postcards he sent to the family at home. On Vancouver Island he met my Canadian grandmother, I have a small Native American totem she took to England with her in around 1912.

    We had five such paintings in our house and my aunt had two or three more. Two hung on my bedroom wall and I spent hours gazing at them.

    And then there was my first sea voyage across the North Sea to Norway. My mother, three sisters and I sailed from South Shields to Oslo aboard one of Fred Olsen’s ships, either the SS Braemar, or the SS Blenheim. I was only two years old and my youngest sister was just a babe in arms. I did the trip a few more times in the 1960s and loved it. Now I live by the sea and it still gives me great pleasure, though there is far too much trash discarded on the beach here in Andalucia.

      you have quite a connection to the sea. In Dina’s family the beloved grandfather was a whaler but Master comes from a family of landlubbers.
      To our experience the sea and beaches are more polluted as further you go south.

I was heartbroken walking along one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Sotovento in Fuerteventura whose golden sands extend for miles, where all along the tide line, there were millions of tiny bits of plastic amongst the shells and small pebbles. How we clean up our oceans I have no idea given the extent of the problem but not adding to the problem just has to be a priority.       yes, it’s a pity what we did to our beaches and the sea.
      This cleaning of the sea will be a great job which can only done on an international level. We read somewhere that some companies produce special nets to catch all the plastic bottles. But they didn’t got enough money to start the cleaning.
      Anyway, we try to do our very best and hope for the best.

    I agree that the polluting of the oceans needs to stop, I have battled for that most of my life being as I was born on one island, raised on another and now live near the coast of a peninsula. This is not a recent problem and the US is not the only perpetrator. Although China and India pollute as much if not more than us, no one country can be held to blame – this is every human beings responsibility – regardless of their nationality. Having pride in one’s planet should be instilled in every child – before they become sloppy, lazy adults. IMO

      well, pollution and global warming – close connected – are the big challenges of the international community. On the World Climate Conference right now hosted by Germany these are the basic topics. Of course the US is not the only perpetrator, but it has a president who ignores climate changes which are caused by this pollution. In the US more water per capita is used than by any other country of the world and electricity as well. If one compares recycling f.e. in Florida with recycling in Europe the US seems to be 20 years backwards.
      Actually China spends more money for cleaning it’s country than any other country in the world. But we admit China had to as the pollution was that drastic there.
      We agree actually children should learn at school about pollution and sustainability.

    it’s great that you support Mother Sea. You should fly to Bonn and speak to the World Conference on her behalf. I try to “go green” as much as I can, but it’s difficult, especially when I do my grocery shopping …
    Why do water have to be bottled in plastic? It makes me feel sick when I see what ends up on our beaches. There should be a ban on plastic bags and bottles, I agree wholeheartedly with you!

    Unfortunately it’s much too windy to fly to Bonn 😦 Dina and our Master wouldn’t allow it.
    Going Green is quite a challenge for us as well. Oh dear, we drink a lot of water from plastic bottles and today, we can tell you, Dina got a parcel from amazon – wow, how much plastic for the packaging! Anyway, we try our best. But there are a points where we don’t mind, it’s too uncomfy to be 100% green. We will change our laziness, we promise.
    Before plastic water was bottled in glas, we suppose? Basically we fairies think water should be that clear that you can drink it from a tap or even from a river or lake – but that’s Utopia, we know.

  43. Great message, my friends. Thank you. There is a little town on the Oregon coast where they gather trash that comes in on the tide and then turn it into fantastic art pieces to remind people of the damage we are doing to our oceans. –Curt

  44. Very interesting effects with snapseed. As for the message -it’s such a very good one that we need to spread throughout the planet. We have been getting quite a bit of stuff drifting over from Japan’s Tsunami. As you said, there is no such thing as “away”!

Following this itinerary, I am thinking of Carles BAudelaire´s poem “The Man and the Sea”, which I have always loved .(Free man, you’ll love the ocean endlessly!/ It is your mirror, you observe your soul/In how its billows endlessly unroll/Your spirit’s bitter depths are there to see”).       In the beginning that was our idea as well. We love the stories of Sindbad the Sailor, Moby Dick, this extraordinary novel with lot of non-fiction paragraphs, all these books about Cook, Shackleton and of course “The Odyssey”, sagas about the Icelandic and Irish who sailed far North and West. We are very proud having Peter Feuchen’s “Book of the Seven Seas” in our library next to books about sailings around the world single handed.
      That’s too big a topic and too special for such a blog post that visitors want to read quick.

  56. What gorgeous photos, and an important message. It’s very hard to avoid plastic, and it’s too easy to ignore the sea, unfortunately. The “Stop the Pollution” photo is beautiful – and how cool that you did it with an iphone! I would love to see these compositions, with the messages, in grocery stores – that might cause people to pause and maybe at least bring their own bags the next time. Have a great week!

  58. Legislating an end to pollution doesn’t work. That’s for sure. This way, person-by-person, is how we can do it. I accept the personal responsibility to never throw trash in the ocean (well, it’s easy to take that pledge–I’d never do it anyway).

      we don’t know. Legislating an end of pollution in the field of traffic seem to work. Cars are getting cleaner, because they have to, and e-traffic is sponsored quite a bit. In big cities of the continent public transport is well developed and runs mostly electrical. And then of course all these recycling programmes which are organized by law. We suppose that helped a lot – but not enough. In Germany the Green Party fights for more anti-pollution laws and it is in the government for quite a while now.
      But, of course, not to pollute has to start on an individual level. People must learn what they are causing with their consumerism.

    Ein fantastisches Früchte-, Beeren- und Gemüsejahr ging hier zu Ende und noch kann ich bis ca. Mitte Dezember Zuckerhut, Cicorino Castelfranco, Cicorino Rosso Salate ernten, denen Frost und Kälte nichts anhaben kann.

      ja, wir hatten ebenso ein tolles Früchte- und Beerenjahr. Jetzt gerade versinken wir in Äpfeln. Auch die Kräuter blühten und gedeihen vom Feinsten.
      Was wir interessant finden, sind die unterschiedlichen Schwerpunkte, die in verschiedenen Nationen auf Pollution-Vermeidung gelegt werden. In Norwegen ist es der Verkehr, erstaunlich wie viele e-Autos dort fahren und welche Privilegien sie haben, in Deutschland ist es Recycling und hier in England ist es die Verringerung des Energieverbrauchs, die schon in der Schule als wichtiges Ziel vermittelt wird.

  62. Hier in der Schweiz müssen alle älteren Heizungen, die die hohen Einhaltwerte nicht erfüllen, total saniert werden. So musste ich meine 30jährige Heizung vor zwei Jahren für Fr. 15’000.– sanieren. Ebenfalls dürfen Cheminees und Schwedenöfen ohne zusätzliche teure Massnahmen nicht mehr benützt werden. Merke, die älteren Heizungen haben keine Lobby!!! Im generellen Recycling sind wir wahrscheinlich noch viel weiter als Deutschland. Salut

      oh dear, das würde mich ja ruinieren 😦
      Hier in England ist das Umweltbewusstsein verglichen mit anderen mitteleuropäischen Ländern gering. Naja, lieber Ernst, die Schweiz ist doch oft der Musterschüler Europas. Deswegen ist sie mir auch sehr sympathisch. Als ich in St. Gallen und Flawil wohnte, ist mir gleich aufgefallen, wie viel umweltbewusster die Bewohner dort waren als in England.
      Wir wären schon traurig, wenn wir nicht mehr abends, wie zur Zeit, ein feines Feuer im Kamin anzünden dürften, es sei denn, wir müssen erst einmal viel Geld dafür ausgeben.

    Have just read your blog and sense the awesomeness it gives to most of us!
    I can still feel the thrill as a young Irish cailin ( girl) watching the fishermen leaving the quay in their curraghs ( fishing boats). There was no feeling of fear of the sea. It was a strong feeling of respect.

  66. So sadly true, modern convenience is killing our most important asset. I saw an interesting bumper sticker the other day. It said something like “We got only one distribution of our best asset – it was 40 million years ago. Water” . Never thought of it that way but of course it’s true. A very timely and appropriate post Fab Four

  71. Danke für dein Thema, das du in so “schöne” Sätze verpackst. Nachdem die Menschheit heute Sachen produziert die keinen natürlichen Abfall bewirkt, fehlt es Großteils der Menschheit an Bildung, wie und womit der natürlich Raum und eigener Lebensraum zerstört wird. Ein sehr kleiner Kreis an gebildeten Personen wissen es sehrwohl und zerstören die natürlichen Ressourcen ganz bewusst. Als verantwortungsvoller “Wissender” kann man nur bei sich selber tun und handeln. Das soll uns aber nicht hindern das natürlich Schöne zu genießen. Grüße aus dem Gebirge.

I started out feeling overwhelmed by all there is to accomplish in cleaning and caring for our environment, but there are always solutions and many cleverer brains than mine to work on them.   74. The freshwater beaches of Lake Michigan have been struck hard with waste. I think the sea would be just as beautiful and even more so to see. Great message.. Our ignorant rulers do hardly see or listen to its people anymore…

    • Also das ist ja ein Ding mit dieser Kamera! Wir hatten noch gar nicht davon gehört, aber Sirilein und Selmachen sind schon kosgeflattert als Sherlockinchens und werden sich umhören. Dazu müssen sie erst einmal in den Norden zu diesem Strand reisen.

    • Nee, nee, ich bin ja nicht ganz alleine: Sirilein und Selmachen sind auch hier geblieben. Wir drei sind nicht so reisefreudig. Dina ist in einer Woche wieder zurück bei uns und dann wird emsig unser Heim weihnachtlich dekoriert. Darauf freuen wir uns schon.
      Keine Angst, unsere Sauna steht noch, wir haben fröhlich ausgeschwitzt und heute Morgen scheint fröhlich die Sonne bei 0 Grad C.
      Den Geburtstag feierten wir in einem hoch gemütlichen Hotel in den Cotswolds, wo England sich am Englischsten und Romantischsten gibt. Es war richtig toll – und sooooo viele Geschenke 🙂

    • Wir haben absolut und überhaubt gar keinen Schnee nich :/ (Litotes mehrfach) heut immerhin schonmal wieder glitzernden Raureif.. den geh ich jetzt auch mal gleich näher erkunden beim Joggen 😉

    • Wir haben hier auch keinen Schnee, aber das ist normal. Hier schneit es längst nicht jedes Jahr, schade!
      Oh ja, unsere liebe Dina hat sich in den Cotswolds den Finger wund fotografiert. An romantischen wie idyllischen Motiven mangelt es dort nicht. Da wird’s zumindest einen Blogbeitrag geben – versprochen!
      Wenn du Litotes identifizieren kannst, nehmen wir an, dass du wie unser Masterchen Germanistik studiert hast oder solltest du gar Altphilologin sein? Aber das können wir uns bei dir weniger vorstellen.

    • Die Germanistik reizte mich schon und die verlagsarbeit wie du ja weißt ebenfalls, in Potsdam hätte ich fast Patholinguistik studiert. (“Während des Studiums der Patholinguistik erlernen Sie theoretische und praktische Fähigkeiten, die zur Ausübung eines sprachtherapeutischen Berufes notwendig sind” Studiengangbeschreibung der Uni Potsdam). Ich hab jedenfalls keinen Master 😉 .. ein Staatsexamen nenn ich noch mein Eigen. Warum bin ich denn keine Altphilologin :D?

    • Ich bin kein Altphilologe, da ich in Latein bedenklich schwächelte. Ich war begeisterter Germanist, lehrte das auch an der Uni in Montreal. Nordistik und Linguistik studierte ich auch. Aber das ist alles in einem anderen Leben gewesen, jedoch die Liebe zur Germanistik und nordischen Literatur blieb bestehen.

    • Unser Wissen stammt teilweise aus unserer großen Bibliothek 📚 die ich seit Monaten wie auch gerade jetzt katalogisiere und ordne. Wegen dieser Bibliothek 📚 leben unsere geliebten Buchfeen bei uns. Wir haben auch vor Jahren über Teile unserer Bibliothek gebloggt. Ich gebe mit Siri und Selma alle Bücher 📚 in ein Bibliotheksprogramm ein, entstaube sie dabei und ordne sie um, da es in einigen Regalen drunter und drüber geht. Wir sind große Büchersammler hier und jedes Zimmer ist voller Bücher. Das Programm hilft uns auch Bücher schnell zu finden. Übrigens die nordische Literatur teilt sich mit der Märchenliteratur ein Zimmer. Ich bin noch immer ein großer Fan der Kunstmärchen der deutschen Romantiker, bes. Tieck. Aber da sind wir noch lange nicht beim Katalogisieren angekommen. Wir werden wohl noch ein halbes Jahr benötigen, um alle Bücher 📚 in das Programm einzupflegen. Sirilein liebt es, als Bibliothekarin kräftig zu helfen und ihre Stupsnase in dieses und jenes Buch zu stecken, Selma ist mit so einem giftgrünen Antistaubhandschuh emsig zu Gange

  78. Why was it possible in the past without plastic and now it seems that we can no longer do without or is there no way back? Good that you Bookfayries shake us awaken again and make us aware of the problem! More manufacturers should switch to recyclable products and materials! But it is not just about plastic, there is more that Mother Earth or Mother Sea poisoned and polluted! And each of us should be more environmentally aware and deal with nature in a decent way. But this problem lies for the greater part in the hands of politicians who would have to implement a stricter environmental policy and to force big producers to produce more recyclable products. If they were already taking a step in the right direction, then the people naturally follow, I think so. Have a nice day, all of you.

      it surely has to do with consumerism. People expect and feel they need much more than in the past.
      On the continent, like in Germany, it helps having the Green Party in the government in many counties and it’s even the ruling party in the richest of all German counties. We agree that legislation is important but ecological thinking has to start on the personal level, how eveyone of us pollutes or not-pollutes.
      By the way it’s interesting that the richest and best educated people in Germany vote for the Green Party. The more conservative and uneducated a person is the more likely she or he will be against green ideas.
