For it implies we say nothing about so many others!”
We too think that one cannot be neutral in the face of war. We cannot continue to blog as if nothing has happened. Since the raid on the Ukraine leaves us speechless, we link here the following article by our blogger friend Dalo (Randall Collins)

      Well, there exist situations in which smiling is harming because it’s an accepting of injustice. People were smiling and turning to spirituality and by turning inwards and not caring they made the German and Italian fascism possible. Fascism by the way favoured a smiling turning inwards like Count Sebottenbroch. It was Rudolf von Sebottenbroch who then sponsored this idea in the esoeteric Thule-society.
      Smiling people never change the status quo. Indeed, we think smiling is harming quite often.

  7. Yes. How can we blog as though nothing has happened? Thank you for linking to dalocollis.com. Very moving indeed. My nearest neighbor is Ukranian. His entire family is there in Odessa and near Kyiv. He hears from them daily and shares their stories with me and every day I try to offer up to him what comfort I can in the face of his breaking heart. And I dread the day for him when communication is lost – no more phone or text or internet – because then the “not knowing” would be sheer hell… Thank you for this post. It seems that it might look hollow to say “all my best to the Fab Four of Cley” but in my heart it isn’t a hollow sentiment at all. All my best to the Fab Four of Cley. Babsje

I am far from being a student of history, but my understanding is that the West under-reacted back in 2014 and now history is repeating itself, as it always does.     • You are right, dear Babsje, the West under-reacted (Siri 😊 loves this expression) in 2014 and now it has to react otherwise there is no West left in the end. Actually, it was with the Jews and Communists the same at the beginning of German fascism, people lived like it has nothing to do with them, business like usual – but in the end, there was Total War and no business left.

    It was a magnificent article of peace, memories and justice. I re-read it due the situation at hand and hope that those having the courage to stand and fight to defend their country will be rewarded with peace in their future.
    May such circumstances never befall those of us who are privileged to still live in freedom.

      We suppose Putin ruins Russia economically with this war that he can’t win. On the other hand, we just read yesterday how many important resources Ukraine has. We weren’t aware of this. Nevertheless, this war in Ukraine could be never-ending with this resistance of the Ukrainians. It will end in a guerilla war and the Russians will have to leave. Or what do you think? You know much more about warfare than we do – actually, we know nothing about it. We read only

    • I heard he wanted a land route to the Crimea, but he’s going beyond that. He does have a plan, but we are not privy to it. I only pray China has nothing to do with it. They did ask Putin to hold up the invasion until after the Olympics and they did. Something odd is going on.

    • We did not know about the collusion between Russia and China concerning the date of the invasion. We suppose China needs the European markets for its economy. The economic interdependencies between the EU and China f.e. are huge.
      But unfortunately we know not enough about current politics and economy.
      The whole situation is very strange, indeed.

  15. There is a worry in my mind for all of Europe given the madness of the Russian leader. Thank you for the link to the Randall post. We must hope the bravery of the Ukrainians will be rewarded and the world will continue to voice disapprovalal of the Putin aggression.

      we are afraid – and these are forecasts here – if Putin goes on invading other European countries we will have WW III. That’s maybe the end of humanity then.
      We suppose everyone has to do her and his thing to fight the Russian aggression. As Babsje showed with her quote nobody is safe wherever they live.

      I shared your feeling but the new government was bound by the legal restrictions of the former conservative government. The Greens as the most important party in the new green-social-democrat government changed this now.

  16. Hallo Ihr Lieben,
    nein, neutral bleiben kann man in diesen Tagen wirklich nicht. Fuer mein eigenes Blog habe ich mich aber entschieden, nicht zum Krieg in der Ukraine zu bloggen. Das wird an anderer Stelle, wie z.B. hier bei Euch, schon zur Genuege getan. Ich kann aber auch nicht so ganz einfach zur Tagesordnung uebergehen. Eigentlich wuerde ich ja trotz dieser ganz fuerchterlichen Lage gerne meine eher leichtere Kost bieten, aber im Augenblick steht mir nicht der Sinn danach. Mich beschaeftigt ganz einfach meine eigene Angst zu sehr. Also mal sehen, wann ich mich in meinen Blogs wieder melde.

      uns ging es auch erst einmal wie dir, dass wir einfach weiter das bloggen wollten, so wie wir es geplant hatten. Aber dann haben wir uns unserer politischen Vergangenheit besonnen und auch Siri 🙂 und 🙂 Selma redeten uns ins Gewissen. So haben wir wie viele unsere Solidarität mit der Ukraine bekundet und waren positiv erstaunt, wie viel lobende Rückmeldung wir bekamen und wie viele wir anregen konnten, auch auf ihre Weise Solidarität zu zigen.
      Wir glauben auch, die Lage ist brandgefährlich. Wenn Putin nicht in der Ukraine erreicht, was er will, kann er leicht einen dritten Weltkrieg vom Zaun brechen. Auf der anderen Seite muss er in der Ukraine gestoppt werden, sonst werden bald weitere zumindest nicht Nato-Länder angegriffen. Wenn Putin in der Ukraine siegt, wird das eh ein Pyrrhussieg werden und das macht unser Erachtens die ganze Sache noch gefährlicher. Plötzlich Weltkrieggefahr, wer hätte damit gerechnet?
      Anyway, wir alle halten der Welt die Daumen und Siri 🙂 und 🙂 Selma weben stärksten Feenzauber; möge es nutzen.

    • Yes, I do agree, they are fighting for our freedom as well, they are fighting for us… and the irony is as free, democratic countries (USA and EU) we are not fighting for them as if our lives depend on it. It is frustrating. I understand there is a deep history between UKR-RUS, but for the world to truly become global we have to evolve into a modern, effective society, and that means thinking forward into a brighter future and not backwards into barbaric history (where brutal regimes live). Wishing and believing in brighter days ahead. Thank you again so much 🙂

Ich danke euch sehr, lieber Klausbern und Dina, dass ihr den Mut habt euch öffentlich zu diesem schrecklichen Thema und seiner Gefahren zu äussern und eure Freunde anregt, sich mit der Situation wirklich zu beschäftigen und Solidarität zeigen mit diesen sehr betroffenen Menschen. Ich war schon auf der Krim und auch in in Jalta, wo gewisse Staatsmänner 1945 über die zukünftige Zusammensetzung Europas diskutierten! In diesen Tagen habe ich einen früheren Beitrag überarbeitet und soeben neu veröffentlicht, aber es scheint nicht geklappt zu haben!

    Mein Herz ist schon soooo lange sehr betroffen, es war vorauszusehen…natürlich alles andere als wirklich vorstellbar, dass es so weit kommen würde…
    Jetzt höre ich mir doch mal Abba “Voyage” Album 2021 an…
    Die Masken habe ich 2011 in meinen Keller gelegt, bei Buddhas Weg wusste man mehr.
    Am Dienstag haben wir, 500 Menschen, mit Gila Antara online gesungen für die Menschen in der Ukraine: Tebje pojem, Tebje bla goslawim, Tebje bla godarim Gospodi. I molim tabja boshe nash, Gospodi, Molim tabja boshe nash
    Vor drei Wochen hat sich mein Sohn die Achillessehne abgerissen. Mein erster Gedanke war: So! Kriegsuntauglich! ( es lag einfach gefühlt in der Luft…). Er fand das natürlich überhaupt nicht lustig, ich auch nicht, bin aber sehr demütig und schaue, was es bedeuten soll, wenn uns etwas richtig Blödes passiert.

    Bin auch bei den Müttern der russischen jungen Männern, bei allen, die in diesem bösen “Spiel” unbewusst mitspielen (“müssen”)…

    Was hat Putin denn vor?

    • Hi, liebes Pialein,
      wir glauben, es geht hier weniger um Verdienste im Waffengeschäft als um machtpolitische Ausweitung. Die Ukraine ist ein rohstoffreiches Land und natürlich strategisch wichtig gegen den Westen. Man sagt immer in solchen Fällen wie jetzt in Bezug auf Russland, die arme Bevölkerung könne nichs dafür. Wir halten das für falsch, wenn nicht große Teile der Bevölkerung mitziehen würden, könnten Autokraten nicht herrschen. Das war auch so im deutschen Faschismus, die meisten Leute machten entweder mit der gar nichts. Die sogenannten Unpolitischen sind genauso schuldig wie die Mitläufer.
      Gute Besserung für deinen Sohn.

    • Ja das stimmt wohl…bin mit den Kindern zur Krabbelgruppe gegangen, damals, da brach in Yugoslawien Krieg aus, wollte das ansprechen, vergiss es, die wollten sich nicht von ihren Lieblingsthemen abbringen lassen: Pampers etc. Ich war ein Störenfried…
      Als ich Kind war, fand mein Ballettunterricht im Gebäude des Hallenbades statt. Samstags trafen sich dort Rote und Schwarze und was weiß ich in der Sauna, Platten und Schampus wurden angeliefert, das war seltsam, dachte ich damals…
      Tatsächlich fällt es mir auch schwer im Parteiensystem politisch aktiv zu sein. Frage mich, wo das hinführen soll…
      Wir hier tanzen weiter zusammen, Russen, Albaner, Bosnier, Serben, Kroaten, Rumänen, Ukrainer, Polen, Türken, Kurden, Italiener, Griechen, Spanier, Iraner, Asiaten, Afrikaner, – innen, noch einige Deutsche, ich meine das jetzt nicht irgendwie, es sind aber tatsächlich nicht viele deutsche Kinder in den jeweiligen Tanzgruppen, wir verstehen uns prima.
      Künstlerischer Tanz, da kommt man schon auf Themen…leider suchen alle den “Spaß” beim Tanzen, frage mich schon lange, wo das hinführen soll.

      das ist schon ein wichtiger politischer Beitrag den du leistst, indem du so viele unterschiedliche Nationen konfliktfrei vereinst.
      Wie du es berichtest, auch wir sehen immer wieder Leute, die sich gar nicht mit dieser kriegerischen Bedrohungen auseinandersetzen möchten. Das ist die sogenannte ‘konfliktscheue Haltung der Kleinbürger’. Damit schaufeln sie sich ihr eigenes Grab. Ruhe sanft 😉

      wir hatten uns einen Krieg in Europa nicht vorstellen können. Ganz im Gegenteil, wir waren immer glücklich, dass wir, wie wir meinten, die erste Generation sein würden, die während ihren Lebzeiten nicht von kriegerischen Auseinandersetzungen betroffen sein würden. Seit acht Tagen können wir über unsere Naivität nur den Kopf schütteln.

      Auch ich frage mich, wie wir so naiv sein konnten.
      Am Dienstag, dem Weltfrauentag, werden wir 120 Frauen nicht nur für für fair Share für Künstlerinnen vor der Neuen Nationalgalerie protestieren, wie es eigentlich geplant war, sondern auch unsere Solidarität mit der Ukraine bekunden.

  29. No one is free until we are all free and I’m not sure that will every happen. Someone is always trying to control others in such a way that it takes the color from their life. This has gone on since the beginning of time. Their are still people here who will refuse to recognize our last President want to be that kind of person. The world frightens me because there is no where at all that can be safe from such horrid people. Too many countries are being run by those kind of men. What is the answer to this?

    • You ask what is the answer to it? We don’t know.
      Well, partly it is education. Those women and men can’t rule against their people but quite often their people have voted them into this position. People have to be trained to understand the manipulative power of media. Most people are too passive and then they wonder what happened in their surroundings. Everybody has actively stand up for peace.

  32. I am not religious, but I pray every night for this courageous people and their president. Life is not easy, and it is not made easier with people like Putin. Thank you for the link, I read it and loved it. I have Ukrainian blogging friends and instagram friends I get the latest information from. I do find it hard to go on living as usual right now. Our family and friends collect useful things and send them via buses and Poland, and we send money too. This war, like every war, is so not wanted, not needed. This one is also especially cruel. All the lies from Russia are disgusting.

      our village collected useful things that are brought from here to Poland. A lot of people do their best to help.
      The positive aspect is how the Russian war brought the Europeans together. There was never so much unity in the EU before. And Putin’s friend M. Le Pen lost the election in France which was very important for Europe.
      The question in such wars is who has the power to form the narrative.

    • Agree. And the narrative produced and sent out with a propaganda machinery such as Russia’s is devastating. The frustration of the rest of the world is overwhelming.

    • Indeed, it is. Also it has the effect that people don’t believe anything anymore they see or read in the media. No more trust in the information of your own country and that’s what extreme right groups like the AfD in Germany f.e. are welcoming.
