People, Animals, Faces
Menschen, Tiere, Gesichter
It is a first for us to take part in a photo challenge. Actually, we refused, thinking that this is only something for those who can’t think of anything to blog about. But now we are one of them and that’s why you can find us here.
“You never stop learning” says Selma 🙂 “and you can see how others express a topic.“
It all started with the faces of the birds. Dina wanted to immortalise her feathered friends, well, as far as a blogpost eternity promises. Here they are, from cheeky to wise, the span we also find in humans.

Even more than clothes, faces make people. A face is a unique identifier, whether it is a king or a beggar. However, we do not have a beggar in our collection, as they are extremely rare in our village.

These are Dina’s other friends, the big seals. You see, Dina is a Selkie, which, unlike most people, these marine mammals notice immediately and pose for her with joy.

These are acquaintances of us big and small, Masterchen, his little sister and who not all. And a rarity, a photo of Dina! These faces say as much as words, we think, even with mouth and nose protection.

Okay, this is our debut in this illustrious photo group. We hope that you won’t make long faces now and we’ll see you here again soon.

Lovely lovely photos as usual, Dina. And I like how you said this “Actually, we refused, thinking that this is only something for those who can’t think of anything to blog about.” There are indeed so many people who seem to not have a life outside of the many blogging challenges. I don’t understand how some can post 5, 6, or more blog entries every day. Writing a post is time-consuming! And I wonder what those bloggers have going on in their real lives that gives so much time to posting? I do worry about some of them, but of course that is not any of my concern. Excellent post today with so many excellent images and commentary. My best to all the Fab Four of Cley.

Dear Babsje
We absolutely agree with you. People who blog every day or several times daily are not only having no life outside the blogosphere but the quality of their posts is low. Quantity is more important than quality for those bloggers. We don’t visit such blogs any more. It’s a waste of time. And you can see they are mostly visited by people who blog without much sense as well. To write a decent post takes time to think about it, for research and combining text and pictures.
Thank you very much. All the best and I hope your eye-problems are solved soon

You are so correct when you write “To write a decent post takes time to think about it, for research and combining text and pictures.” Also, I agree about the unfortunate preponderance of quantity over quality. I do, however, visit some of those blogs because there are some bloggers who are recovering from serious illness and some from serious accidents where recovery necessitates being homebound rather than out in the world. And there are people grieving the loss of a spouse or partner or beloved family member, and so they need the comfort of connection that they think they can get from the blogosphere. But I don’t understand the compulsion that drives the others to over-posting. And also thank you for your well wishes for my eyesight, much appreciated. All my best to the Fab Four of Cley.

You mention bloggers with serious illnesses. We think there are not so many around. But this reminds us of Tad Williams’s great novel “Otherland”. We read that many years ago and were taken by it. It’s about seriously ill youngsters meeting in different virtual realities.

Was there something in particular that made you change your mind about photo challenges?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Dear Steve,
we were a bit tired of blogging. Especially our dear Master was contemplating giving up blogging. He couldn’t find a reason why we should blog. All this came up that after he was pushed by his editor to write another book. That’s finished now and immediately his editor tried to talk him in writing another one. That made him contemplate why going on writing and blogging as well. He could comfortably sit in our garden house reading with a drink or enjoy doing nothing. This lens artist photo challenge was something new for us coming exactly at the right time. We enjoyed it and it was a challenge for our Master to write a text for these galleries, not the normal routine.
This is one reason. Another reason is that we sometimes don’t find something interesting to blog about. Well, so we didn’t blog and waited for an inspiration. Now the group gives an inspiration. It’s like writing an article for a magazine and provide photos to it. The topic is given. So we don’t do what we are always used to do. We all four had the feeling we need a new challenge that is fun. Of course, it has to be fun because we don’t need to blog. There are so much more activities we like.
Thanks for asking this question. This is what we like that you are questioned sometimes when blogging.

Dafür liegt Heckeschneiden an.

I think this lens artists challenge would even be better if the participants would criticise each other, especially negative critique, so that we could learn from each other.
We are just working on the new challenge about primary colours, which is “my topic’ as I wrote quite a lot of books about it and made some films about red, black and white for the German TV – but that’s many years ago. Funnily enough my editor just asked me if I would like to take part in a multimedia project about colours writing all the texts. I haven’t decided yet as I am retired and enjoy being lazy.
Wisching you all the best

Yes, critique should be delivered nicely – and if it were possible to choose critique for our followers, that would be good. Far from everyone wants critique though.

This is superb, my friends! I don’t know where to start – but I’ll start with the Gannet. I hoped to see one in Iceland but I didn’t. I’ve always wanted to see one. Your photos of these photogenic creatures could not be better. And your seal photos are equally brilliant – they have so much life! It’s clear that you have an understanding of them that stretches beyond the species barrier. You did something clever with the photos of Prince Charles – his lapel flower and pocket handkerchief switched sides! 😉 It’s wonderful the way you put people at ease when you make portraits – everyone looks natural, relaxed, and happy. Bravo!

Good afternoon, dear Lynn,
thank you soooooo much for your kind words. They made our dear Dina smile since she read them.
People are queueing for getting photographed by Hanne. She makes them look relaxed and shiny. And we suppose that animals don’t mind either 😉
Wishing you a happy weekend
