It’s the time of the year when our shores feel a little more magical and every wave brings a wonder.
It’s the time of the year when the Grey Atlantic seals have taken over Blakeney Point. Momentarily, it looks like a maternity ward. A staggering 10 000 pups are expected to be delivered until the end of the year. If it would be possible, Dina-Hanne would capture each and every one of them. 🦭🦭🦭

Zu dieser Jahreszeit liegt ein magischer Zauber über unserer Küste. Es ist die Zeit, wenn die großen Kegelrobben den Blakeney Point einnehmen. Der Point wird zur Entbindungsstation. Zehntausend Seehundbabies werden bis zum Jahresende geboren. Wäre es möglich, Hanne-Dina würde jedes einzelne dieser Babies fotografieren 🦭🦭🦭

      Das ist es in der Tat. Es wird als eines der großen Naturereignisse in Europa betrachtet. Leute kommen von weither, um das zu sehen, obwohl der Weg zur Kolonie beschwerlich ist, wenn man nicht die rechten Zeiten der Tiden wählt.

    how utterly adorable! Thank you for sharing this delightful pup with us.
    And you, Klausbernd, what are your favourite pastimes at Christmas? I can vividly picture you in your beloved rocking chair with a book and possibly a good whiskey.
    I’m spending Christmas and New Year with Per Magnus for a change. I leave Stockholm on Monday and we’ll call you on Christmas Eve.

      You are absolut right. I love sitting in my rocking chair with a book and a malt whisky on the little table at the side. I just read ‘Creation Lake‘ by Rachel Kushner. I was astonished to find a critique of Guy Debord and the Situationist in this novel. You remember we both were fascinated by his book ‘The Society of Spectacle‘. I laughed reading what Kushner writes about Debord: “He had not changed the world. Instead, he had merely become famous.” And I read another highly praised book ‘Long Island Compromise‘ by Taffy Brodesser-Akner. Up to p. 30, it’s very funny how she describes the American upper middle class who is “kidnappaly rich” and lives in “extremely robbable homes’. After p.30 it gets boring, what a pity.

      We all wish you and Per Magnus a great and happy time together. Are you meeting at his in Longyearbyen?

  10. Fascinating, dear friends. That’s a seriously great amount of Grey seals! We have nowhere as many here although you can watch them all along the coast of Norway.
    I’m so happy for Hanne being able to be amongst them in the colony.

      We won’t have some snow ❅❅❆❄︎❄︎ here, but we’ll go to the Scottish highlands just after New Year and hope for lots of snow there ❄️❄️🌨️🌨️❄️❄️.
      Kb has piled up some books 📚📚 waiting to be read during the holiday season. In a way quite funny because he has holidays every day – but you know how he is like.

      We will have a cosy time at home with delicious cooking 🌮 🍽️ 🍳 and drinking 🍷🍾

  26. Wer könnte diesen großen dunklen Augen schon widerstehen? Ich wünsche euch ein friedvolles Weihnachtsfest im Kreise eurer Lieben, egal ob Verwandte oder Freunde. Vielleicht wird dann in einigen Jahren auch gesagt: „Es war einmal…“ oder aber: „Wisst ihr noch, damals….?“. Ich freue mich auf den Besuch meiner Kinder und Enkel, auf das Musizieren und Singen, und ganz besonders auf das Lachen, das selbst den nassesten und grausten Tag zum Strahlen bringt.

    • May one leave a PS to a Christmas letter . . . have done a little ‘homework’ at a quiet moment . . , just wondered where Siri and Selma were born 🙂 ? I may be writing from Australia but the background to my first husband and daughters born here is Estonian – one is called Siiri with a ‘double-i’ (a Finnish name to us), the other Kersti . . . and Selma is one of the most common girl’s names in my birth country . . . 🙂 ?

    • We are Scandinavian, Hanne-Dina is Norwegian and Kb was partly risen in Sweden. We chose the names of our Bookfayries from SIRI Hustvedt and SELMA Lagerlöf. Kb lived for quite a while in Finnland before Siri and Selma were born.

    • Ganz herzlichen Dank, liebe Hanne, für deinen lieben Kommentar. Besonders Hanne-Dina liebt es als ‘seal warden’ draußen auf dem Blakeney Point die Kolonie zu bewachen. Es geht darum, dass keiner über die Absperrung steigt und Hunde wegbleiben. Die Kolonie ist nur etwa 5 km von unserem Haus entfernt, aber eine völlig andere Welt.

    Das zarte Antlitz der Baby Robbe…welch Kontrast zu all der Grausamkeit und Brutalität in der Materieschlacht auf dieser Erde…

    Ihr könnt euch kaum vorstellen, wie beruhigend und beglückend es ist, zu wissen: da gibt es die FabFours!

    Euer Leben im Dorf und seiner Umgebung, mit all den Büchern, den Robben und Vögeln, dem Garten…usw. Inspirierend!

    Dazu noch eure ereignisreichen Biografien, eure Kreativität, eure liebevolle Fürsorge und das ständige Streben danach, eure geistigen Inhalte so genial u.a. in diesem Blog darzustellen – dazu noch extreme Geduld, Fleiß und Hilfsbereitschaft…man kommt ins Schwärmen…

    Aus einem Herzen voller Dankbarkeit sende ich euch die besten Weihnachtsgrüße!

      habe gaaaaanz herzlichen Dank für deinen lieben Kommentar, über den wir uns sehr freuten.
      Hier pfeift der Wind ums Haus, aber es ist freundlich, die Sonne kommt ab und an durch. Hanne-Dina und Kb sind ziemlich erkältet. Siri und Selma kümmern sich lieb um sie und es geht auch schon langsam wieder aufwärts.

      Viel Spaß beim “Feuervogel” und “Bolero”. Wir kennen nur die Musik vom Feuervogel, die uns sehr gut gefällt. Der Bolero ist ja ein Klassiker. Wird der auch getanzt?

    • Ja, es wird getanzt…es wird modern…schauen wir mal…aus dem spanischen Volkstanz heraus entwickelt…

      Hatte ich sogar mal selbst choreografiert, am Ende warfen alle ihren schwarzen Hut vom Kopf, ach Gottchen.

      Wir wünschen euch gute Besserung für die Schnupfennasen! Wir nehmen eine neuartige Zellnahrung ein…bisher wurden wir verschont…sind auch nicht mehr so erschöpft.

      Meine Haare sind nun nach 4 Wochen nicht mehr grau, wie geht das? Wundersame Verjüngung…

      Unangenehme Schreibtischarbeiten wurden wie immer verschoben und werden jetzt in Ruhe erledigt, ebenso Entrümpelung und Veränderung.

      …übrigens, das Chi in den Lungen wird einzig durch Radieschen bewegt, ohne die Lungen weiter zu erwärmen bis entzünden….manchmal, wenn nichts mehr sonst hilft, hilft das Essen von Radieschen…(metal)

      Tanzen ist flüchtig, nichts Greifbares bleibt, das gefällt mir so daran….

      Das finden wir interessant, was du über die Flüchtigkeit des Tanzens schreibst. Das erinnert uns an die buddhistische Kunst der Sandmandala-Malerei.
      Uns geht es schon etwas besser, wenn wir auch in Duett husten und niesen. Aber so kommt alles heraus.

      we love Lavender and Lime, it already starts with your title, as we love both. We live in an area that’s famous for its lavender. We have lots of different lavenders in our garden.
