Season’s Greetings from Norfolk

The sight of 24 twinkling trees lining the drive to Blickling Hall in North Norfolk is magical. This is not all.  Along with another 26 Christmas trees around the house and gardens, there are 19,000 lights decorating Blickling overall.

Season’s Greetings

Nach einem nicht gerade idealen Jahr in der Welt wünschen wir euch eine dennoch Frohe Weihnacht und ein Neues Jahr, in dem ihr alle euer Glück finden werdet.

After not an ideal year worldwide we wish you nevertheless a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May you all find what you need for your happiness.

  17. Ein ganz böser Schatten hat uns ja hier in Berlin gerade noch voll erwischt, aber da jetzt die Wintersonnenwende schon hinter uns liegt, wird es auf jeden Fall jetzt wieder heller, denn ganz viel Licht benötigt diese Welt auch 2017 (so wie auf dem Foto) & noch mehr helle Köpfe!

    • Siri and Selma think that waste is allowed at Christmas time – they love many, many lights and Dina as well, she is used to it from Scandinavia.

Merry Christmas fab four and thank you all for your memorable posts this year – the Master’s oft thought-provoking prose, Dina’s exquisite photos and Selma and Siri’s wonderful wit, wisdom and wonder.   47. Merry Christmas to you! Gewagte Farbe für ein Schloss! (oder was ist das Gebäude?) Gerade war sie mir etwas viel (in meinem Ballettsaal setzt Magenta deutliche Akzente, es schwingt hoch, dachte optimal für Tanz) deshalb zog ich mich ins Himmelblau zurück, kränkelte vor mich hin…
    Juhu, rechtzeitig zu den Feiertagen erhebe ich mich wieder, wie es aussieht!
    Freut Ihr euch noch nach Weihnachten über Geschenke?! Die steinige yellowbrigroad zur Poststation war zu weit…
    Aber, jetzt wird es gehen!
    19 000 Lichter – Zauberei?! Stromsparen ist da nicht…oder?!
    Naja, my home is my castel, wir werden in der Odenwald-Hütte Kerzen anzünden und es uns gut gehen lassen, das ist der Plan!
    Das Blinking Hall Foto und eure Weihnachtspost gefallen mir sehr, interessant wäre noch: Nehmen die normale Lichterketten oder haben die auch schon auf LED in bläulich-kalt-weiß umgestellt? Die sollen nicht so schnell brennen, im Kindergarten werden nur noch die verwendet.

    • Liebe Pia,
      weiterhin gute Besserung.
      Nee, zum Lichtfest wird nicht Strom gespart, ganz wie auch in Skandinavien.
      Wir sind gerade damit zugange, Plätzchen zu backen – die erste Ration mampften Siri und Selma weg. Obwohl ganz ehrlich, die Kokosmakronen wurden zu trocken. Jetzt wird ein neues Rezept gerade von Selmalein fein ausprobiert.
      Klar, wir lieben Geschenke und wie 😉 Das halbe Kaminzimmer liegt schon voller Geschenke, und es gehört die Energie eines Raubtierbändigers dazu, um unsere wilden lieben Buchfeen von ihren Geschenken fern zu halten.

  49. Gerade habe ich gesehen, die mischen manchmal noch ein wenig türkis bei, das sieht auch nicht schlecht aus, magenta-türkis gestreift, das werden die Farben für meine neue Homepage, so jetzt heraus aus den Federn, Christkind steht vor der Tür!
    Ihr habt es schön in Norfolk, genießt es, ich freue mich für euch!

    • Naja, da doch Magenta eine der Grundfarben beim Vierfarbdruck CMYK ist, hat es Kraft, und dazu der türkisene Grünton als Grundfarbe der Lichtfarben RGB, da kommt schon einiges an Power zusammen. Uns wäre es zu mächtig, aber das ist Geschmackssache.

  63. Liebe Hanne, lieber Klausbernd,
    auch von uns aus Berlin wünschen wir ein frohes, besinnliches und friedliches Weihnachtsfest.
    Hätten wir den Ort des Fotos nicht mit persönlichen Augen gesehen, ungeschmückt im Frühjahr, würden wir denken, es wäre wie im Märchen.
    Wir werden jetzt auf Lebensmitteleinkaufstour gehen und für unsere Gäste morgen am Heiligen Abend die letzten Dinge kaufen.

      wir hatten gestern unsere große Einkaufstour in Norwich. Heute backen wir unsere zweite Ladung Plätzchen, da die erste von voriger Woche bereits verschwand, dann gibt’s die Weihnachtssauna und danach wird nur noch vorm offenen Feuer gefaulenzt.

      we love “to blickle” – great new word!
      We still have a blinkling Christmas time, we miss the snow and ice a bit, but nevertheless we eat and drink and are happy.

More importantly, I hope all the refugees are able to find a home, food and a place in foreign lands that if not like home, at least a place they can call home for the near future. Vicki x

      thank you very much for all your good wishes. We are fine and full of thanks that we are so privileged not being refugees. In comparison to England quite some refugees are already integrated in Germany. Well, Germany can afford to do a lot for integration and needs a lot of new people for its industry. Companies were desperately looking for workers. That helps a lot.

      You have been travelling the Amazon River, wow! We suppose you went by boat from Manaus. We read the diaries of Humboldt travelling this area as well. He complains nearly every day about all the flying and biting insects there. Well, you survived 😉

      indeed, Blickling is worth visiting. We love its Jacobean-style, looks like a fairy tale castle. There are quite some Jacobean buildings around. We love those houses with a long history and a soul.

      don’t worry, we behind of everything as well. We were just too lazy and enjoyed it.
      Now we are hoping for lots and lots of snow. Winter without snow is so un-romantic.

  109. Your opening photo not only holds magic that depicts perfectly the Christmas spirit, but also the magic that is the winter season. Looking at this photo this evening makes me think of family and traditions of home I just left…it is a great feeling. Thank you!

    • Good afternoon, dear Dalo,
      for us part of the Christmas spirit is snow. But, oh dear, we had it sunny here until today but now the weather is forecasted to change. We very much hope for lots and lots of snow. We miss snow and ice very much here.
      We love to celebrate all those German and Norwegian Christmas traditions. Around Christmas until Jan. 6th our whole house is changed. Especially Siri and Selma take care that we have lots of Christmas deco and that we bake and cook a lot and eat and drink too much 😉
      We were used have Christmas in a cold season with lots of snow and ice. It’s strange to have a kind of springlike Christmas here. For you it must be even more drastic.
