What to do in view of the situation at the moment?
That’s what Siri 🙂 and 🙂 Selma ask us. But we, Dina and Masterchen, just stand there, wring our hands pathetically, pick our noses and know nothing.

Das fragen uns Siri 🙂 und 🙂 Selma. Aber wir, Dina und Masterchen, stehen da, ringen unsere Hände pathetisch, bohren in der Nase und wissen nichts.

Goethe saw yellow and blue as the fundamental polarity in the world of colours. He explained most natural phenomena through the workings of polarities. In view of the situation, we find writing about this to be the detached indulgence of inhabitants of an ivory tower. However, we live in this world 1500 miles or 27 hours by car from Kyiv. That the war in Ukraine concerns us cannot be ignored with petty-bourgeois repression. But what to say about it? Knowing German history, we see a parallel between Putin and Hitler, both narcissists who would rather plunge the world into the abyss than give in themselves.

Gelb und Blau sah Goethe als grundlegende Polarität in der Welt der Farben. Er erklärte die meisten Naturphänomene über das Wirken von Polaritäten. Darüber zu schreiben finden wir angesichts der Situation für abgehobenes Frönen von Bewohnern eines Elfenbeinturms. Wir leben in dieser Welt etwa 2400 Km oder 27 Stunden mit dem Auto von Kiew entfernt. Dass uns der Krieg in der Ukraine angeht, kann nicht mit kleinbürgerlicher Verdrängungshaltung ignoriert werden. Aber was dazu sagen? Als Kenner deutscher Geschichte sehen wir eine Parallele zwischen Putin und Hitler, beides Narzissten, die die Welt eher in den Abgrund stürzen wollen bzw. wollten, als selber nachzugeben.

We Europeans and all NATO states must act now. But how? Our dear Master had a dream that he shot Putin James Bond-like. Fully compensatory, since he is completely unheroic. What the dream tells us is Putin can only be defeated from within. But how difficult that is was taught to us by all the failed assassination attempts on Hitler. Since Master’s family was involved, he feels obliged to do something. But on the other hand, he doesn’t know what. Evil thoughts rise up in us, e.g. wipe out Moscow and Putin and Co. in a blitzkrieg. But that would be casting out the devil with the Beelzebub, which never led to good.

Wir Europäer und die Nato-Staaten müssen handeln. Aber wie? Masterchen hatte einen Traum, dass er James-Bond-gleich Putin erschoss. Voll kompensatorisch, da er völlig unheldisch ist. Was der Traum uns sagt, Putin kann nur von innen besiegt werden. Aber wie schwierig das ist, lehrten uns all die fehlgeschlagenen Attentate auf Hitler. Da seine Familie daran beteiligt war, fühlt er sich einesteils verpflichtet, etwas zu tun. Aber auf der anderen Seite, weiß er nicht was. Da steigen böse Gedanken in uns auf, z.B. im Blitzkrieg Moskau und Putin und Co. auszulöschen. Aber das wäre den Teufel mit den Beelzebub auszutreiben, was nie zum Guten führte.

We have agreed on the lowest denominator of writing against the annexation of Ukraine and donating our winter jumpers and warm coats to the refugees. At least that soothes our conscience a little.

Wir haben uns auf den kleinsten Nenner geeinigt, gegen die Annexion der Ukraine zu schreiben und unsere Winterpullover und warme Mäntel für die Flüchtlinge zu spenden. Immerhin beruhigt das unser Gewissen ein wenig.

  1. Your thoughts echo mine. It’s difficult to stand and watch this happen, but we do have to be careful not to prod the raging bull. I too have wondered where our ‘James Bond’ or ‘Jason Bourne’ are to be found. Someone needs to stop him. We have made a donation to DEC to hopefully make some difference. And hope the people fleeing their homeland will soon be able to return. 🔵🟡

    I agree with you and HeyJude. We must stop Putin, but also be very careful not provoke him into something disastrous for us all. In Tromsø, we are not far from the Russian border and the situation is tense.
    The multiple exposure of the waterbed is a remarkable work of abstract art, dear Dina-Hanne. I very much enjoy this kind of photography and look forward to seeing more from you.

      in Norway, you are really near to Russia. We can imagine that is quite frightening. Let’s hope for the best – whatever that might be.

    I was away for a three-day symposium and have nothing cheerful to tell you.
    Also, things, in general, aren’t especially cheery up North.
    This war is revolutionary. Germany’s attitude has changed 180° and the invasion of Ukraine has forced Sweden as well as Finland to rethink NATO membership.

      Sweden and Finland are quite endangered. Wasn’t there Russian submarines invading the Baltic Sea and violating Swedish territory? And the Swedish airspace was invaded by a Russian fighter jet just lately. We think it is safer for us all if the EU countries Sweden and Finland would join NATO.

  10. Dieses Gefühl der Machtlosigkeit ist nicht angenehm! Das Wissen, welche Auswirkungen ein Eingreifen in militärischer Form hat, lässt das Gefühl der Ohnmacht weiter wachsen. Und genau das weiß der russische Diktator. Ich denke, dass dieser Plan schon seit Jahren in seinem Hirn heranreifte. Den armen Menschen in der Ukraine bleibt nur die Flucht. Meine große Sorge ist, dass die jetzige Anteilnahme und Hilfsbereitschaft umschlagen könnte in Ablehnung und Feindseligkeit. Corona hat uns ja gut gezeigt, wie Menschen – eine Minderheit, aber dennoch viele – damit umgehen, wenn sie sich in ihrer Freiheit vermeintlich eingeschränkt fühlen. Sie gehen auf die Straße (ihr gutes Recht) und werden immer aggressiver. Diese Gedanken, dass es den schutzsuchenden Menschen aus der Ukraine bald ebenso gehen könnte, wie den Flüchtlingen aus Syrien, Afrika u.s.w., so sie es überhaupt nach Europa schaffen, macht mir sehr große Angst.
    Natürlich spenden auch wir – Geld an seriöse Hilfsorganisationen, da hier in Berlin dringend von Sachspenden abgeraten wird. Leider hilft das nicht viel gegen die Machtlosigkeit.

      hoffen wir, dass die Rechtsradikalen sich nicht gegen die Ukrainer wenden werden. Ihnen müsste Putin verständlich sein, indem er keine andere Meinung zulässt, ähnelt er doch ihnen wie auch in seiner Radikalität und der Verbreitung von Fake News.

  13. Thank you for sharing your reaction to this crisis, Fab Four. I share your angst even though I am on the other side of the world. The situation is horrendous. He will stop at nothing. War has come. Ignoring it with petty bourgeois repression only serves the interests of the would-be oppressor. Very Churchillian, don’t you think? In the meantime, refugees will need practical support like your blankets and coats, or even temporary shelter. Perhaps NGOs need people to come forward and volunteer to coordinate donations in local communities? Local communities outside the immediate war zone might also need to build their own resilience in the event of retaliation. For example, I understand Cley is near a powerstation …

      fortunately, we are not near a power station. We are living at the centre of offshore wind farms.
      A lot of people work for the NGOs as in our area most of the people are pensioners with organisational skills. They are very active on different levels in the NGOs. In comparison to continental Europa like Poland and Hungary, nearly no refugees go to the UK.

  14. You have put to words what so many of us are thinking, “what to do”. The world, it seems, is united in repulsion but at a loss as to how to combat the terror that has been/is being inflicted on Ukraine. The availability of nuclear arms has imposed a level of necessary caution on those who might otherwise be willing to jump into the fray. If the world were dealing with a reasonable adversary there might be greater support for the resistance but as it is we all proceed with caution despite our desire to help stop the madness. These are difficult and frightening times for the world at large. May our united disgust and outrage find a way to stop this chaos. In the meanwhile, thanks to you and so many others for speaking out – I absolutely loved Hanne’s image this week.

  15. Thanks for your post and sharing your thoughts and anxiety.
    I stay here without words, without knowing what to (except donating, keeping the heating low and wearing more than one sweater). There must be a way out. It seems to be hidden – still.
    All the time since the wall came down, I have been trying to help to establish good connections with Russia, was there lots of times, have friends there. I feel like I lost this fight.
    Pray and hope for the best.

      our dear Master has been quite often in Russia as well. When he was working in Finland he went to Petersburg nearly every weekend. Nevertheless, Russia and the Russians always remained a mystery to him. Being anthroposophically influenced, he tried to see Russia as positive, like Rudolf Steiner. He did not succeed, as it remained too foreign to him.
      Of course, we see that not all Russians stand behind Putin – but too many of them.

  17. It is such a complex problem. I heartily admire the Russian people (spent a summer with them), but Putin–I don’t think he has their best interests in mind. I push back against the Chinese treatment of the Uyghurs by avoiding Chinese products–that is almost impossible. Should I also avoid Russian-made products? I have no warm coats to donate…

The wonderful Fab Four of Cley, you touch upon a frustrating feeling for most people in the world right now, what and how to do something… And the dreams we all have of wanting to defeat Putin, ideally from within, rests with forces beyond our control. Putting all this out here for us is a breath of fresh air in many ways, “We have agreed on the lowest denominator of writing against the annexation of Ukraine and donating our winter jumpers and warm coats to the refugees. At least that soothes our conscience a little.” This is something.   22. I have those urges sometimes, too…and it was the same when Trump was in power. We are so glad that at least he’s not in power now – imagine what he might do in response to what Putin is doing. It’s a helpless feeling but making art and donating to the cause are good things to do. That’s important, too.

  24. We can help with little things like donating clothes and praying. The world has to tread carefully though against Putin. You put into words what many think. I also was looking for a James Bond to take care of the situation. Let’s keep the hope up as the Ukrainians keep their strength up.

  25. Your thoughts are my thoughts. I don’t live 25 hours by car so it gets harder to think of what to do. The prayer and support thoughts have all been rendered. The analysis of outcomes of this mess has indicated the best possible would be the people of Russia rising up and telling Putin he’s done. Given the lack of freedom in Russia, that’s not going to happen. Most of the citizens have bought into the state propaganda message that Ukraine should stop fighting and join mother Russia and be subservient to Putin. After all, they were part of the Soviet Union so why not? on top of that, the madman Putin is warning everyone else in the world to stand down and watch him rape Ukraine. This criminal behavior is heart-wrenching and we all seem powerless to stop it.

  28. I’ve been reading so much about this and It feels like history repeating itself. Putin keeps himself isolated out of fear of assassination. He’s lost the last of his marbles just like Hitler. That’s when they are most dangerous. We have more miles but that won’t make a difference because what happens to one, effects the all. What Hitler did is still so painful to so many that are still alive now. Families are affected forever by these monsters.

  29. Hi Dina and all the Fab Four of Cley. Gorgeous photo composition and well-thought-out narrative in your post. I have been sitting with it off and on today, trying to compose a reply. That environmental catch phrase Think Globally, Act Locally” comes to mind for surely the environment of the entire planet comes into stark relief in these times of trouble. I remember as a child when Dag Hammarskjöld’s plane crashed in 1961 and my mother’s alarm, and also in 1961 when the Berlin Wall went up seemingly over night,  and the 1963 Cuban Missile Crisis here in the U.S. and Kennedy’s assassination. These were the first times my mother expressed fear of war and her own sense of impotence.

    When 9/11 happened here, my daughter had taken a sick day from school and so was at home with me and I could be the person to break the news to her and offer comfort the best I could. I lost two coworkers on the plane out of Boston that day. And now with Europe on the brink, she is grown and far away and there is nothing immediate that I can do for her or anyone else. It is a feeling of impotence shared by so many others.

    Bookfayries Siri 😊 and Selma 😊 are smart to reach out to you, and I’m sure they know very beloved they are.

    Maybe it is now a good time to plant garden? Maybe even the hopeful beginnings of a victory garden? Something tangible, imbued with love and hope.

      the first time our dear Master was confronted with the fear of war was at the Cuban missile crisis in 1963 – at least that’s the situation he remembers that his parents got very nervous. Fortunately, the war didn’t break out. Now it’s different we are in the middle of a war that can last long and makes people suffer much too long. We can only help with our donations and speaking out against this war – and war in general.
      You are right. Now we go to our garden to plant flowers for peace. There are peace lilies, aren’t there?

  31. Dear Klausbernd and Dina,
    so very difficult to comment. What we do not hear about (from the “West”) is the continuous expansion of Nato into the European sphere of Russia after 1990. The agreement between America and Russia in 1990 was protocolled to withdraw Russian troops from East Germany and to include East Germany, with re-unification, into Nato, and with that not to have any further expansion. The horrendous situation we “in the West” and the people of Ukraine are faced with is of Nato’s making and those who are pulling the strings. The media are doing their own best, steering public opinion. Humanitarian intervention is the big buzz word. What is happening is incomprehensible, ugly and inexcusable. However, to exclude “the West” with its democratic values from any guilt is just as foolish. There is one government in the world that has started numerous wars after 1945, even with a Nobel Peace Prize recipient at the helm – are they quietly working behind the scenes to start the next? That should be part of an open debate in the midst of divided opinions.

      on one hand, you are right with the NATO expansion to the East. That’s the argument of Putin too. On the other hand, that doesn’t justify such a war. Of course, the media are steering the public opinion including ours. But this post shows that it is possible to publish facts and opinions that differ from the official coverage. In Russia that would endanger us. Anyway, we are convinced that war is always wrong.

  33. Hoping against hope this isn’t a parallel to 1938 and the Sudetenland, and that the militarists and warmongers come to their senses. Just as in 1914, 1939, or 1861 in this country, so many people are struggling to overcome a feeling of helpless incredulity.

  37. Ah fab four, your thought process closely resembles my own and I also see the parallels between Hitler and Putin, the invasion of Czechoslovakia and then Austria and the invasion of Ukraine. It is all very scary and horrific for the Ukrainian people. I also use the pen and donations to try to help and wish a better solution would come to light.

  39. Moin, ich noch einmal.
    Vorweg, danke an dich, an euch, für die empathischen Texte und die tollen Bilder. Ich brauche ja manchmal etwas länger, bis ich mich durchgeklckt und gelesen habe 😉
    Auch hier schreibst du mir aus der Seele. Handeln ja, aber wie? Ich versuche diesbezüglich auch meine Gedanken zu sortieren und habe es heute Morgen, in einem “Anfall seniler Bettflucht” wieder getan. Meine Gedankengänge gehen nachher online – Schreiben hilft mir beim Sortieren. Es hat ein Für, es hat ein Wider, der Humanist ringt in mir mit dem Realist. Vielleicht ist das bei mir wegen meines Sternzeichens Zwilling besonders ausgeprägt. Ich weiß es nicht.
    In einem Punkt unterscheiden wir uns jedoch besonders: In James-Bond-Manier den Putin zu erschießen, habe ich nicht geträumt. Aber seit zwei Wochen schließen ich diesen Russen-Mörder-Diktator in mein Abendgebet mit ein und wünsche ihm den Herzinfarkt-Tod. In dem Wissen, dass man den auch herbeiführen kann. Die haben da doch im Inner Circle bestimmt Mittel und Leute, die sich damit auskennen. Und seitdem stehe ich morgens in der Hoffnung einer EIL-MELDUNG auf meinem Smartphone auf, dass Putin in der Nacht überraschend einem Herzinfarkt erlegen sei ….
    Na ja, die Hoffnung stirbt bekanntlich zuletzt. Zuletzt heißt aber ebenso: Vor Putin 😉

      als Skorpion neigt Masterchen eher zu James-Bond-Actionen 😉 Aber Herzinfarkt finden wir auch völlig okay. Als Siri 🙂 und 🙂 Selma deine Mail lasen, fingen sie auch an, ihre Magie dahingehend anzuwenden, wenn auch ein wenig zögerlich, da negative Magie Risiken birgt. Aber sie haben sich dann davon gegenseitig überzeugt, dass es für eine gute Sache ist.

      Indeed, endurance is what we all need right now, especially the Ukrainians. Like many here, I feel ashamed of how disgustingly Ukrainian refugees are treated on the border to the UK.

  42. Dear 4Fab,
    “Since Master’s family was involved,…”, mir steckt das Treiben meiner Altvordern auch so in den Knochen. Das merkte ich nun die Tage besonders. Als vermeintliche Pazifistin und Rot Kreuz Schwester bin ich vollkommen entsetzt über meine Reaktionen: ich war so wütend am 25. 2. morgens auf P, dessen Name ich nicht mehr aussprechen möchte, weil ich den Osten immer verteidigte, bei jeder Gelegenheit, und es gab deren eine Menge. Und ich war und wäre niemals Kommunist oder Sozialist. Trotzdem war ich mit Gerdchen S. so d`accord – Wandel durch Handel. Dann kamen die Tränen und ich habe den ganzen Vormittag immer wieder geweint. Alles dieses Gutseinlassen, verstehen wollen und verzeihen. Es war die Trauer über eines der grössten Verluste meines Lebens, der Illusion als Kind in der britischen Zone mit Familie in der russischen Zone, einen Ausgleich dadurch zu schaffen friedvoll zu sein, Systeme anzunehmen, in und mit ihnen zu lernen. Gegen Abend desselben Tages dann: wir müssen doch etwas tun – was?, Erleichterung bei Defensivwaffenlieferungen! Töten die nicht? oder “Gibt es im Kreml denn keinen Brutus?” und zu guter Letzt: Ich wünsche dir P die Pest an den Hals. Und überhaupt: ich verfluche dich. Ich bin nicht mehr die friedfertigste Person, die ich kenne. Wie schrecklich. Vor mir liegt jetzt die beginnende Liste rmöglicher Unterkünfte für Flüchtlinge. Und bin gefühlt wieder plusminus 5 Jahre alt, umgeben von Flüchtlingen aus dem Osten, im Haus meiner Kindheit. Hopeless! Hoffnungslos! Hopplös! Dank Euch für eure Initiativen/Stellungnahmen. Schade, dass ihr nicht um die Ecke seid. Dann könnten wir vielleicht im Kreis fluchen. Herzlichst Ruth

      herzlichen Dank für deinen berührenden Kommentar. Ja, es ist erstaunlich, wie viel Aggression sich auch bei uns bemerkbar machte und das mit Verwunderung aber ohne schlechtes Gewissen. Pest und Cholera für Putin. Wir hätten nicht gedacht, dass er für seinen Traum vom russischen Großreich über Leichen geht.
      Masterchen hat die Flüchtlinge damals aus dem Osten nicht mitbekommen, da er teils in Schweden und der Schweiz und teils wohl abgeschirmt von allen Unbillen wie du in der Britisch Besetzten Zone Rheinland als Kind lebte.
      Jetzt schämen wir uns für die britische Regierung, die die Flüchtlinge aus der Ukraine fürchterlich behandelt. Es ist erstaunlich, wie kleinkariert rassistisch viele hier sind. Alles, was nicht britisch oder zentraleuropäisch ist, wird als Bedrohung abgelehnt. Das ist irrational, da UK eine völlig überalterte Bevölkerung hat und froh über Flüchtlinge sein sollte. Es so ein bisschen wie bei Putin, man weint immer noch einem längst vergangenen Weltreich nach und spielt zunehmend weniger eine Rolle in der Weltpolitik.
      Wie dem auch sei, das ist doch etwas, gemeinsam zu fluchen. Super!

  44. We must stop Putin, if he conquers Ukraine then he we take the rest of Georgia and Moldova. For more than 20 years Putin has stated that “the collaspe of the Soviet Union was the worst thing that ever happened to Russia”, so its been his only goal to take back and reform the Soviet Bloc. All the other bad things he has done were stepping stones to this moment. I don’t think anyone outside of his own FSB (the replacement of the KGB) have the ability to take him down. All all of Europe have to do as much as we can to stop him and keep Ukraine in the fight, if Ukraine falls we are a step closer to World War 3.

      we absolutely agree with you. Putin needs his ‘Brutus’, he has to be stopped. But how hard that is showed history on the case of Hitler.
      He fantasises about the restoration of the Great Russian Empire and that means the danger of WWIII. The West was sleeping and underestimating him for too long. We hope that it isn’t an illusion that we can stop him now with a kind of economic warfare.

  45. Ich hatte so 40 Jahre lang die schweizer Kulturzeitschrift „Du“ abonniert. Alle Ausgaben stehen bei mir. Diese Woche ziehe ich von Lust gepackt aus den hunderten Magazinen eines heraus. Als Atheist glaube ich weder an Vorsehung, noch an Wunder, aber an den Zufall. Es ist ein Monatshelft aus dem Jahr 1993. Der Inhalt fällt irgendwie aus der Reihe vieler anderer Monate. Der Inhalt ist gefüllt mit Beiträgen zum Balkankrieg. Der Titel ist „Balkan. Ein europäisches Desaster“. Überwältigt von dem Zufall habe ich wieder zu lesen begonnen was da 1993 die Menschen bewegt hat. Und ich komme für mich zu der Erkenntnis, dass der Westen, mehr die europäische Politik überhaupt nicht nach diesem Schock reagiert hat. Man hat weitergemacht, wie wenn es den Balkankrieg überhaupt nicht gegeben hätte. Jetzt steht Europa mit einem wunderschönen Feuerwehrhaus da, hat aber noch kein Löschfahrzeug angeschafft. Die europäischen Politiker haben geschichtlich gesehen, schon immer die Völker des Ostens vergessen. Einzig die Waffenlobby macht überall Geschäfte.
    Ja, Klausbernd, so sehe ich das. Es wird sehr lange dauern…..Ciao, Ernestus

      interessante Metapher vom Feuerwehrhaus und den Löschfahrzeugen. Ich glaube schon, dass auch die Löschfahrzeuge da sind, aber keiner traut sich diese zu fahren.
      In erschreckender Naivität hat man Putin unterschätzt und die Augen vor seinen jahrelangen Kriegsvorbereitungen verschlossen. Aber ich muss auch zugeben, dass der Osten in Europa mir immer sehr fern war, obwohl ich einst in Finnland lebte mit Russland vor der Haustüre. Allerdings bereiste ich häufig und ausgiebig die damalige Sowjetunion. Dennoch fühlte ich mich nie den Menschen und der Kultur nahe wie z.B. in Schweden, Norwegen, Dänemark und den Benelux-Staaten und Irland. Polen war mir weitaus ferner als Kanada, wo ich viele Jahre lang lebte und vom Balkan hatte ich nur durch Karl May gehört und irgedwie galt der als dunkel und gefährlich. Über die Ukraine wusste ich rein gar nichts. Das ist u.a. das Ergebnis solcher missachtender Politik. Dennoch gibt es bei diesen Völkern des Ostens eine Mentalität, mit der ich meine Schwierigkeiten habe.
      Ich befürchte wie du, dass eine Änderung der Einstellung dem Osten gegenüber noch lange auf sich warten lässt und zugleich, dass der Krieg in der Ukraine noch lange anhalten wird. Durch die jetzige Berichterstattung in deutschen, norwegischen und englischen Medien, sind mir jedoch die Ukrainer liebenswert geworden. Daraufhin sind natürlich die Bilder ausgewählt worden, die wir zu sehen bekommen.

  48. Ich entschuldige mich gleich vorweg wenn ich hier Ratschläge gebe. Du schreibst, dass ihr Winterpullover senden möchtet. Dazu. Ein geflüchtete Frau aus der Ukraine schreibt, die Westeuropäer senden Gewand: Die glauben wir sind nackt. Nachdem deinen Blog doch sehr viele Menschen lesen, wiederhole ich, Spendenaufforderungen richten sich in erster Linie an Geldspenden. Dabei wird den Flüchtlingen vor Ort das gekauft was notwendig ist. Essen, Hygieneartikel, Geld für wohnen und Fahrten. Schulsachen. Geht das in Ordnung? Damit grüße ich all eure Leser.

      das ist völlig okay. Wir glauben auch, dass Geld wesentlich ist, da man dafür alles mögliche Notwendige kaufen kann, auf der anderen Seite hörten wir von Freunden in Polen, dass dringend warme Kleidung benötigt wird für Leute, die alles verloren haben. Wir hatten eine große Spendenaktion in unserem Dorf. Da wurde Kleidung, Babynahrung, Decken und Hygieneartikel von zwei Freiwilligen direkt in die West-Ukraine gefahren.
      Anyway, so hört jeder etwas anderes. Hier wird z.B. mehr kostenloser Wohnraum zur Verfügung gestellt, zumindest erst einmal für ein Jahr, als Flüchtlinge nach England kommen. Arbeitsangebote und Wohnraum ist für diejenigen, die hierher kommen, das Allerwichtigste. Das läuft hier jedoch gut an.

  49. Ja, die Ukraine war ja kein “unterentwickeltes” Land. Natürlich wird die Versorgung durch abgekappten Nachschub abgebrochen. Ich glaube, sollte die Ukraine wieder ein funktionierender Staat sein, dass viele Geflüchtete wieder gerne in ihre Heimat zurückkehren wollen. Viele Familien sind doch zerrissen, da die wehrfähigen Männer zurückbleiben mussten. Wahnsinn was da passiert! Euch wünsche ich etwas Zerstreuung mit den Reisen. Auch wenn es bedrückend ist, man darf das eigene Leben nicht vergessen. Ciao e salutte, Ernestus.

      Naja, ob die Flüchtlinge wirklich zurückkehren, hängt davon ab, was aus der Ukraine wird. Bei der veralterten Bevölkerungsstruktur in der EU und erst recht in UK sind besonders ausgebildete Arbeitskräfte rar. Dazu kommt, dass viele Englisch verstehen und auch mehr oder weniger gut sprechen.

  50. Dark times indeed. When any empire declines (Roman, Mongol, Portugese, Spanish, Dutch, French, English) it generally means war over huge swaths of the globe. I think this is apparent once again as the two cold war titans (Russia and my own America) reluctantly give way to the new Chinese hegemony.

    Courage and love to the people of Ukraine, and to the Fab Four.

      Sorry, that we didn’t answer earlier but we spent a kind of holiday in Germany and the Netherlands. We just came back. The trip was as we like it. We had nice snow, warm and sunny weather like in summer later and hardly any rain and grey skies.

      we just came back from a trip to the Netherlands and Germany. It was partly a visit to several museums and partly visiting friends and bringing stuff from Dina’s old house in the Rhine valley. And now we are happy being back home, the sun is shining, it’s warm and our garden is full of daffs and tulips.
      If we are settled in again we will go on blogging but now we are busy redecorating our house with pictures we brought from Germany, beautiful carpets, an antique clock and this and that. It’s a good chance to get rid of old stuff as well.

      wir sind gerade aus Deutschland und den Niederlanden zurück und waren erstaunt, wie viele Autos aus der Ukraine wir dort sahen. Es ist erschreckend, wie nahe der Krieg uns rückt. Dieser Expansionswillen Russlands ist schon erstaunlich und uns erstaunt zugleich, wie auf der ganzen Linie Russland genau das Gegenteil davon erreicht hat, was es wohl erreichen wollte.
      Die Ukraine rückt allerdings gerade angesichts der Wahlen in Frankreich etwas in den Hintergrund. Wir halten fest die Daumen, dass Macron gewinnt. Le Pen als Siegerin wäre ja das nächste Desaster. Aber zurück zur Ukraine, das kann sich zu einem ewigen Krieg entwickeln, wie wir befürchten.

Was mich an diesem entsetzlichen Krieg so deprimiert, lieber Klausbernd, ist, dass man zwar einerseits einen Friedensvertrag herbeisehnen muss, andererseits aber doch weiss, dass ein Vertrag mit Putin nicht das Papier wert ist, auf dem er geschrieben ist. Und was das Ende angeht? Wer weiss, was da noch kommt. In der “Welt” gab es dazu einen Artikel:

      Für das Beenden dieses Krieges benötigt man wohl einen unerwarteten deus ex machina. Was Matthias Horx u.a. dort beschreibt, klingt wie frei nach Dan Brown, post-modern erzählt. Wir haben nicht einmal eine Ahnung, wie wir uns ein sogen. gutes Ende vorstellen. Wir verdängen unsere Unsicherheit und genießen den Bilderbuch-Frühling. Uns fiel auf, dass in den Nachrichten der Krieg in der Ukraine seinen ersten Platz an die Wahl in Frankreich verlor.

Auch ich, lieber Klausbernd, verdraenge diesen unsaeglichen Krieg – jedenfalls ein wenig und temporaer – und zwar beim Bloggen und beim Bearbeiten der vielen Bilder und Videos, die ich aus West Texas mitgebracht habe. Apropos Videos: ich habe mir eine neue, ziemlich kleine. Kamera zugelegt, eine “Action Cam” [Insta360 One RS], die ich waehrend einiger Fahrten auf dem Armaturenbett hatte. Auf dieser Tour hat es ganz prima (Weit)winkelvideos gegeben, aber demnaechst probiere ich auch 360 Grad Fotos und Videos.

      ich habe heute auch bei uns eben alles gießen und wässern müssen. Das ging gut, denn heute ist es bedeckt, jedoch ungemütlich warm. Sicherlich ist es nicht so trocken wie bei euch, aber es ist ziemlich trocken.
      Dann wünschen wir dir viel Freude mit deiner neuen Kamera – Action Cam, also voll Action!

  55. Irgendwie komme ich bei dieser Moral nicht mit.

    Auf der einen Seiten befördern die Menschen echtes Leid, indem sie Qualfleisch essen und obwohl es gute Ersatzprodukte gibt.

    Auf der anderen haben sie ein schlechtes Gewissen, wegen einem Krieg, für den sie nichts können, und wegen einem Land, das wegen seinem dreisten Präsidenten und Botschafters in Deutschland auch nicht Sympathiepunkte abräumt. Ich positioniere mich wegen den beiden inzwischen als neutral, von pro-Ukraine bin ich inzwischen weit weg.

      Es erstaunt mich keineswegs, es halt die bequemste Art und Weise, sich vor selbst und anderen als guter Mensch darzustellen. Was ich darüber denke, schreibe ich lieber nicht.

      Am Anfang fand ich das Kriegsgeschehen auch schrecklich, und einzelnde Schicksale berührten. Inzwischen sehe ich es als Selfcare an, mich nicht mehr damit zu beschäftigen, zumal unsere Medien genauso wenig neutral sind wie die russischen. Ich lasse mich nicht gerne manipulieren, vor allem, wenn ich merke, dass ich manipuliert werde.

      Der schreckliche Botschafter und der dreiste Präsident haben bei mir zur Abneigung geführt.

    Leider verbuenden sich in Deutschland im Augenblick die Rechte und die Linke in pro-russischen Protesten, dazu noch unterstuetzt von einer bunten Mischung aus Quer”denkern” und Verschwoerungstheoretikern. Ich finde es ganz bezeichnend, dass der einzige Kommentar hier, der anti-Ukraine ist und kein einziges Wort verliert ueber die russische Aggression und darueberhinaus auch noch mitfuehlende Menschen als “Klageweiber” verunglimpft, aus Deuschland stammt.

    • Wir sehen das wie du, lieber Pit. Die Allianzen mit Russland sind in Deutschland sehr eigenartig. Die Verbindung von Rechtsaußen und Linksaußen zeigt u.a., dass die alte politische Einteilung gemäß Ideologien nicht mehr fasst. Die Querdenker sind eh die chaotischen Rechtsaußen. Erstaunlich, dass sie das Wort ‘Denker’ in ihrer eigenen Bezeichnung gewählt haben. Dasss die Rechten für Russland sprechen, ist schon absurd, geradezu eine Umkehrung der Geschichte.
      Wir haben allerdings hier nur einen Kommentar, der Russland etwas in Schutz nimmt. Und diese Besucherin findet an allem für gewöhnlich Kritik.
